theres no storage, so the "just for tonight" stairs get hoisted into the air during intermission. other larger pieces are used for storage of props, since there's so many

the phones dont actually use the curly cords! there's a stretchy wire cord INSIDE the curly ones so that they don't accidentally stretch or tangle the phones, since they go such a distance

because of the LED pixel tape on the back wall and the practicals on the set, this show set the RECORD for most lighting channels: 66,000!!

also during "act as if" we see those lines traveling across the stage - that look like they are traveling along the pixel tape lines, but sometimes there are gaps in the actual tape (since its a lattice pattern) sot hey had to track and very tightly focus some movers to complete those lines

"das ubermensch" is the only fully tracked song in the show - all prerecorded music in two parts. the designs on the pixel tape on the back wall are timed to the music. the second part of the track starts right after the "HANDS UP!" and the flashlight in the audience - the sound tech uses that flashlight swinging back around to dave as his cue

when they put the ghost light out every night, the stage manager puts a magnet with one of the main five's faces on it. different magnet every night!

the rhinestones on the spilsbury costumes come off regularly onstage

the newspaper jean leslie is holding in "act as if" right before she switches from spy to jean to sing "monty here here!" HAS A FAKE HAND. ITS NOT HER HAND HOLDING IT! its attatched to her hat and moustache and HAS A FAKE HAND ON ONE SIDE SO SHE CAN HOLD HER MARTINI GLASS

I could elaborate but won’t right now bc my brain is at like 20%.

But from how they highlight Bill’s hat and briefcase at the end of Making a Man (to quite LITERALLY ‘make a man’), to the plethora of lighting changes that make Just For Tonight WORK (including the flashy lighting of the different bars that juxtapose the simplicity of the flashlights on the faces of the submariners, not to mention the line “Burning With Destiny’s Light”), the lighting is what makes you Believe in the story, it immerses the viewer, it makes it all Real.

a few quick ones: mincemeat has the MOST LIGHTING CHANNELS ON BROADWAY! 66,000!!! this is mainly due to the pixel tape that makes up the grid at the back of the stage, in which each pixel is its own programmable light that makes all those col designs in du and glitzy finale and willie watkins! du is also the only tracked number in the show, because the sound and lights are so intense they need to be synced up!

mincemeat, like many broadway shows in the 2020s, uses ONLY LED lights! they also do Not have any manually operated spotlights — but unlike other shows (cough schmigadoon) you don't notice this! because mincemeat doesn't utilize many followspots at all — any moving lights are for style — like op mentioned in just for tonight! instead, lights fade up on a specific location onstage that the actor has to step into, making everything feel more smooth and making the world feel more real, rather than the obvious moving of a spotlight.

mince also very cleverly lights the full stage in a wash for most of the show. when there's five people running around a ton, it makes a lot more sense to light the whole space rather than try to follow them around. that way our isolated moments feel so much more powerful, most of all those flashlights AND dear bill. when we have darkness and isolation in our lights, it really lures you in and forces your brain to really notice the difference!

dear bill has my favorite lighting in the show, oddly enough. it's deceivingly simple — just a full stage wash that veeeery slowly dims to a blue, save for the few lights (4 total) hitting jean & charlie, and hitting hester. and the rest of the stage fades. and then even more slowly, jean & charlie's light goes out, and the stage wash goes out, and it's JUST about two lights on hester alone. and you don't even notice the way it all dims to nothing. you're so locked in, nothing else exists. there is no other cue in the show like it. and it's so slow and subtle that you don't notice until you've been dragged all the way into it.
