Snakestar metacognition
Meet Foamtongue, a warrior of SedgeClan, (Roleplayed by @divinationobfuscation) and Saltsting, a challenger of SedgeClan. (Roleplayed by Mads)
Foamtongue and Saltsting are identical twin brothers, though few in SedgeClan would confuse them these days. In their youth, Foamtongue was a bit of a wild one, pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable behavior for a SedgeClan cat. Saltsting, on the other side, was a placid and amicable young warrior, with a calm demeanor and gentle way that put even some elders to shame. Despite their differences, they always remained close. That all changed when Emberlight, a close friend of both, was murdered by Storkstrike. Saltsting turned claws on a clanmate he felt didn't do enough to save the healer and their friend, and was demoted indefinitely for the crime. Foamtongue, horrified, completely denounced his brother and his violence. They've since done a 180°, swapping both personalities and standing: Saltsting, shunned by many for his unforgivable crime; Foamtongue, now a paragon of SedgeClan virtue, frequently uses Saltsting as an example of everything a SedgeClanner shouldn't be, a black sheep of the family that's held at tail's length.
Meet Sleetstar, Galefoot, Foamtongue, Saltsting, and more when SedgeClan opens for application next week, Saturday, July 11th.
Keep an eye on the blog this week for information regarding SedgeClan's absence at the most recent gathering, as well as meeting the cast up for adoption! Our first one goes live later today!

"Family portrait! The most normal family."
Meet Molepath!
Unlike his sister, Molepath is far more unconventional when it comes to his engagement with JuniperClan culture. His birth had come unexpectedly, alongside his sister, when Storkstrike had gone out of camp on a late leaffall evening, returning two days later battered and exhausted from an unexpected labor too far from camp to make it back in time, as well as the slow methodical dragging of her children back to camp with only one mouth to carry them both. The litter had been a surprise to both Storkstrike and JuniperClan, with Storkstrike not having known he was even pregnant.
Where Shrewstrike shares athletic aptitude with her mother, Molepath relates more to his mother in strategy and philosophy, a side his mother does not share with most other clanmates. This was especially exacerbated by an injury he had as an apprentice that resulted in the loss of his tail. While outwardly clanmates compare his sister to a young Storkstar, Storkstar himself says that Molepath is the cat he can see himself the most in. Molepath is a perfectly serviceable warrior, but he takes to spoken word far better than he takes to physical intelligence. Storkstar had a tendency to bring Molepath uninvited to strategist meetings until it was made clear that he belonged there.
Despite these things, his sister tends to take up most of the spotlight due to her charisma and bold, risky behavior. Molepath can have a tendency to be overlooked for his desire to sit and observe before he acts, which usually leads to him making the smarter choices between the two, though seldom the flashier ones.
Molepath will be one of the five adoptables available in our JuniperClan opening on May 1st.

Does the Clan have their feelings on Snakestar taking her kittens out to pray at the shrines? I can imagine those that are more practical seeing it as reckless - and I wondered whether you had any thoughts upon it. I've got some ideas for my own character (Conflicted by the whole ill-weather thing, but also deeply spiritual themselves - and considering that they do not know better than Snakestar, *gosh*). Really fascinating adopts so far, and Snakestar is SUCH a thrilling character based off that snippet from Dandeliondrift. (PS, I swore I saw another adopt; Yarrowsomething? Unless I'm just muddled by different RP)
Well, that's up for you guys to decide! You're welcome to have your cat be opinionated on Snakestar's approach to her kits, but it's not our place as moderators to write that decision for you! :D
Thank you so much for your interest in our adopts! We have Yarrowmist, Kestrelstrike, Briarwhisper, Pinepool, and Dandeliondrift!
Jack
Meet Dandeliondrift!
Dandelionkit was born to Snakestar alongside five other kits. The litter had the misfortune of being delivered during a premature cold season, where leaffall seemed to have been skipped entirely in favor of a longer leafbare by the spirits. It was a difficult birth and an even more difficult childhood. Snakestarâ obsessive in her ritualistic practicesâ would take the kits out, despite the poor weather, to worship her shrine in a desperate attempt to keep her litter alive. Despite Snakestarâs efforts, Dandelionkit was one of three to make it past weaning, and the only one of their litter to survive to apprenticehood.Â
They were encouraged into the medium role very young by Snakestar, though Dandeliondrift doesnât know, truly, their intentions behind it. Was it out of a desire to protect her child, or because their constant exposure to worship at a young age made them a proper candidate for the apprentice position? They earned their name within the last three moons, excited to serve as LichenClanâs newest medium.
Dandeliondrift will be one of the five adoptables available in our LichenClan opening on March 6th.
Meet Pinepool!
Pinepool has a twin sibling, Oakstream. They were named Pinekit and Oakkit by their parents because they could always be found side by side. As LichenClan began to experience the consequences of the drought, Pinepool was one of the worst to suffer from dehydration. When Snakestar went to request water access from SedgeClan, SedgeClan said they would allow it if a LichenClan warrior came to train a new healer, as SedgeClan lost all of theirs without a predecessor. Oakstream volunteered to go when no other cat would: they wanted to ensure safe water access for Pinepool, even if it came at the cost of leaving LichenClan. While Pinepool has recovered from the dehydration, they have not recovered from the cost of losing their sibling and closest friend.
Pinepool will be one of the five adoptables available in our LichenClan opening on March 6th.
It has been over a moon since the drought hit LichenClan. It started small, the creeks-- typically rushing-- came in much calmer than usual. Slowly, the water slowed and slowed, until it ran completely dry.
It didn't take long for cats to get worried and desperate. Every alternative was quickly dried; cats were going days with barely a drink of water. It wasn't even a full moon when the weaker of the clan were at serious risk of mortality, if not succumbing completely.
While Snakestar was able to negotiate a temporary solution in recent days to keep the clan going, one thing is certain-- it's not a solution they can rely on for long. Two major warring factions have risen within LichenClan; the practical, and the spiritual.
Those of more grounded beliefs believe the answer needs to be found with their own. They have suggested a slew of ideas, from taking water from the neighboring town to venturing to the river's source.
However, the spiritual disagree, believing that this drought is a message that needs to be solved with sacrifice and ritual. They insist that any other option is not only a waste of precious time, but an insult to LichenClan culture.
One thing is for sure. If a solution is not found soon, no LichenClan cat will last long, regardless of what they believe.
LichenClan opens for auditions on Friday, March 6th.

Crowcaller, what do you miss most about Shadowface? What about them drew you to them when you were young? Squallwatcher, how do you feel about RavenClan after the fire? What do you feel has changed the most? What do you miss most from before?
Crowcaller
It looks over, the call of its name pulling Crowcallerâs eyes half-lidded and preemptively smugâ though look has a distinctively watery appearance, with the catâs snotty nose and slightly glazed eyes. This expression doesnât change as the question rolls over, but it does⌠still. Sharpen, somehow, yellow eyes boring out of a lazy, nose-lifted relaxation. It doesnât reply immediately, but the butterfly-pin look slides away before it does. When it speaks, Crowcallerâs voice is thickâ nasally, stopped-up and⌠still dry, smooth despite the gravel of illness.
âI miss the prey theyâd bring me,â Glib and thoughtless, if not for the hesitation before. The very tip of Crowcallerâs tail twitches, just once, and their eyes flick away. It sniffs away the worst of the mucous clogging their nose. âNobody else gets that we hunters want to have prey brought to us, too.â
The next question garners a second look, a twitching of its whiskers. Something seems to soften in its eyes, though, and Crowcaller relaxes onto its side. Its lips quirk.
âCurious thing, arenât you?â Its voice attempts to pitch, friendly and jibing, but it only serves to make its strained voice thready and half-whispered. Crowcaller clears its throat, makes a little humming noise.
It considers the truthâ an egg, laid by a portion of the flock that had favored a bloodline for generations. Promised, in a way, to the little scrap of black fur squirming on the forest floor. Two slinking black figures, smart and ambitious and willing to make their own claim of proximity and patience and a little offering of their own, birthed hardly a fox-length from the crowâs first chirps.
How the crow had been promised to Shadowkit, and little Crowkit had stolen its affection from under their nose. How both of their parents had considered Hopper as Crowkitâs, for the way they tussled and laughed and learned to shred prey together. The rage of Shadowkitâs mother, the burn of Shadowkitâs jealousy.
How Crowcaller had been born to kinship with the crows, and not ownership. It grew with the crows as his littermates, far up from the crowded nursery of the forest floorâ was sheltered as much by the bloodline which surrounded Hollowstride with its two-bird flock each time she left the nursery as it was by its own parents. How Crowcaller doesnât think that any of them really understood his fascination, when Shadowkit began to learn to scale the tree he lived in.
How the crows had been promised to Shadowface, and how Crowcaller had not been any different.
But. This truth was soft. This truth gummed between its teeth and coated its tongue with mud-thick nostalgia. This truth was Crowcallerâs, and did not soothe any cat the same. So, Crowcaller hummed, and it picked a different truth.
âOur relationship was the product of a generations long feud between our bloodlines. Our parents both strove for perfectionâ in themselves and in usâ and it sparked a great rivalry between us, even in kithood. Everything was about them, because everything I did had to exceed them. I spent many of my nights imagining how to one-up them, you know, and it was difficult, because Shadowface was, well and truly, the pinnacle of a Ravenclan cat. We made a good pair, in that aspect. Now, I know now that our rivalry was largely one-sided, butââ
Its thick voice falls back into that thoughtless cadence, this truth so unimportant that⌠truly, Crowcaller doesnât pay much mind as to whether it lines up, narratively. This story could go on for quite some time.
Squallwatcher
He doesnât flinch at his own name, but the swing of mismatched eyes is certainly hurried. Squallwatcher blinksâ wide eyes, flickering ears, confusion pulling worriedly at the corners of his mouthâ before the question registers, and his expression dips. His eyes drop to the ground, and he pulls a smile that is gone nearly as quickly as it had come.
âItâsâ Itâs still Ravenclan. It hasnât really, um,â And he winces a bit, before he says his next words, âThere are fewer cats, now, but it really hasnât changed that much. Ravenclan has always been pretty⌠um, individual, I guess. They look out for themselves before anything else. I think everybody just⌠hides it less, now.â
Something about his own words ring oddly to him, and he pauses for a second. The hesitant pleasantry falls away, and the tomâs face is blank, eyes twitching side to sideâ and then he breaks the moment with a laugh. The sound is surprisingly warm, for what youâve seen of the tom so far, and his expression is less tense when he returns to you.
âSometimes I feel like Iâm thing thatâs changed the most. Like Iâve got this new, um⌠like, like I canât r-reach them, anymore. And it feels wrong when I try.â His brow furrows a bit, but the placidity of his expression hardly shifts. The way he talks is⌠rather detached, for the content of the words themselves. âAnd I⌠I do miss wanting to. I miss feeling like these cats were⌠my family? Or⌠wanting them to be, I guess.â
But then he grins, eyes curving and whiskers pushing back. The picture of contentment, truly.
âIt, um, it might be a strange thing to say, butâ It was worth it.â Undeniably. Unequivocally. He had Pollentuft, nowâ and that was more than that sparse handful of loose connections heâd hoarded before.
Meet Snakestar, leader of Lichenclan (roleplayed by @spiderstalk)
Stone-faced and soft-spoken, Snakestar is the face of Lichenclanâs mystique. Most cats of Sedgeclan or Juniperclan have never heard her speak outside of her bare-bones announcements at Gatherings, and she likes it that way. At home, sheâs known for being a bit of a soft touch interpersonally, and highly ritualistic. Itâs no surprise her only kit grew up to be a medium. Still, she has led her clan through many harsh seasonsâ even before her ascension to leadership 30 moons ago. Itâs well-known that Snakestar was the one to choose their new camp after the avalanche five season cycles ago, and much of her legacy is built on her actions during that turbulent time. Still, as the drought takes its toll, some of her clanmates are beginning to side-eye the number of deals she is cutting with the leaders of the other clans.
