ok so bad news my kitchen is carpeted

Oh yeah, American homes have carpet everywhere. You can be thankful for your parquet flooring now.

ive been living in the USA my entire life and have never had nor seen a carpeted kitchen lol. anyway the reason i have one is my apartment is a repurposed motel room so it was probably designed with the assumption that the most amount of cooking someone would do is reheating food

unfortunately once you start noticing the tendency of some sci-fi to flatten every character into ‘ambiguously atheist’, the implication that the only future is one where no one has any religious beliefs is going to piss you off for the rest of time

it does get worse when you notice that religious characters tend to show up only to portrayed as “backwards”, or stupid/ridiculous for believing in it when surrounded by future tech, or to be corrected into being Good Future Atheists.

Coming back to add on this: just speaking for Judaism, if there are no Jews, what that implies is we were wiped out. If your story says a Jewish genocide - or any genocide of any other people - is necessary for "Utopia" I am not interested
