and any way the wind blows demonstrates her mistrust of people in a near-paraphrase of one of hades’ verses in the london version of chant II:

the two of them have deep-seated trust issues which is why allowing love into their hearts and accepting the inherent vulnerability of that is so hard for them both - and why they both eventually turn to material security.

and then nytw chant II and epic III explicitly draws the connection between hades’ love for persephone rendering him mortal

A cheerful character who can enjoy all the trivialities of life and wants to die anyway. An observant, almost all-knowing character who can has been used endlessly, and the main cast who will never, ever use him for such superficial reasons. The arc where we learn he can never die, and they still refuse to let him get injured? It lives in my head forever. He cherishes them so much, and they cherish him so much. And yet, his only wish is to die. And they know this, technically, but they also are unable to accept it. The scene in the maoseluem, with all the blood? Yona’s expression is heart breaking.

I finished Akatsuki no Yona and and I was horrified.

I just want to scream out of pure frustration, disappointment and anger at that ending. What was that? Let me tell you: a disaster.

I can't believe what happened in the last two chapters happened that way because, after a ridiculously long, pointless arc with absurd twists and turns and more deus ex machina than I can count, the characters deserved at least 10 chapters in total to have a decent ending, if not an emotional one.

And did they at least get that? No, because their resolution was rushed in every way. The original dragons wanted to take everyone to Dragonland, and three seconds later they changed their minds. The human dragons lost eyes, a leg, and arms when their powers were taken, but three seconds later they have new ones because why not? Hak lost his body and was technically dead, and three seconds later he wasn't. Soo-Won was doomed to die, if not from the Crimson Disease, then from his grievous injuries, but three seconds later he's healed, and the experience helped him accept that he killed King Il for personal reasons and wants to return the throne to Yona. Yona showed no progress or ability to become a proper queen, because she went from being locked in her room to reading three thousand papyri and acquiring all possible political knowledge, and now they can crown her without any problems, conflicts, or anything because everyone agrees to it, and no one will find it strange that Soo-Won becomes her advisor when just three days ago he was the King and had led the Kouka Kingdom to its glory days.

The only one who came out well is Yoon, because he will fulfill the goal he set for himself centuries ago. So good for my boy, but the rest got crumbs.

It would have been wonderful if we could at least see the dragons in their villages, getting the closure they deserve after years of a tortuous life, the end of a cycle of fear, abuse and ignorance that began 2000 years ago. Perhaps we'll see it in the extra? Perhaps, or we'll see Hak and Yona's wedding (because that scene was the only good one in the final chapter), or perhaps we'll see the lost conversation between Hak and Soo-Won, because they didn't have a real moment to talk about what happened between them. The author decided that Yona could speak for Hak, and Hak and Soo-Won didn't need closure, as if resentment, anger and betrayal weren't a recurring theme between these two.

I don't even bother thinking about all the loose ends that will never be resolved, making you wonder if the author decided to throw away the slow-burning, steady learning, and complex relationships/feelings halfway through the story. Everything that happened from the time Yona and the others arrived at the palace could have been an email.

I'm in shock. I think I'll need three or four days to process this because if someone had told me two months ago that Yona would have such a bad ending, I would have laughed in their face. And look who's laughing now?
