I think I'm gonna start studying dutch again because I have so many great memories in the netherlands and belgium and I don't want to let my dutch just slowly wither away until it's completely unusable, especially not after I put so much time and effort into it. I'm not aiming for a C1/2 or anything like I am with german, but I'd like to be pretty comfortable in it.

I've had this weird synaesthesia thing my entire life where I get this weird undescribible feeling when I see/hear about traffic lights and now I'm getting that for the german word for traffic lights and anything that sounds like it

i do love in tv shows that are dubbed in german, every so often a character will say something in the exact same perfect made for tv high german as everyone else, and somebody else responds "woaaahh haha your accent is sooo extreme, you must be from [insert place here]!!". like aaah yes i could also tell this character is scottish from their perfect polished high german, makes sense.

The Dutch word 'wel'
In Dutch we have the beautiful word 'wel' which can not be translated to English. It is the opposite of 'Niet' (not), so for example
Ik wil dit niet => I do not want this
Ik wil dit wel => I DO want this
In English you may emphasise 'do' to say the opposite of 'do not', in Dutch you can use 'wel'
Ik heb dit wel gedaan => I DID do this
With or without emphasis on 'wel' a sentence may mean different things
IK doe dit wel => I do this (don't worry, I will do this)
Ik doe dit WEL => I DO, do this
