Er... you probably don't want to hear this if you're hoping to replace your Metabones IV adapter for the new Sigma MC-11, but I tried one in the shop today against the MB-IV as I was considerably curious. What I found was that it hunted just a little more than the MB-IV and sort of juddered the auto focus past the point of focus and then returned to the correct focus point. It was pretty quick and SSOOOOO much better than the entry level adapters of the Commlite ilk, it's just when I tried my A7RII with the MB-IV and the Sigma Art lenses, it was just a touch faster and noticeably smoother to focus. The lenses I tried on the Sigma adapter and on the MB-IV were the cropped 18-35 f1.8 Art, 24-35 Art f2 (ff) and the 50mm f1.4 Art (ff). It was the first time I've tried any of the art series on my camera and genuinely expected to walk out with the new Sigma MC-11 adapter, but, I didn't. I will add in defense of the Sigma adapter, that SOME of the lenses offered eye focus in Face Detect mode and found a face no worries (could be the camera, could be the sigma adapter?) But, what was weird was, on the 24-35 f2 it wouldn't allow me to lock on to a subject for follow focus, but equally didn't say I ~couldn't ~ either (no 'lens not compatible' message appeared) which was strange. Perhaps after a few updates the Sigma MC-11 adapter will be even more refined? Obviously the MB-IV doesn't have the noodle to offer follow focus or eye detect, so, for the right lens the eye detect would be completely worth it. Now, I was only in the shop for about 35-40 minutes as the shop attendants didn't have an open A7RII and they were as keen as me to see how it behaved on the A7RII. I think the Sigma MC-11 adapter would be a great buy if you didn't have or couldn't afford the MB-IV adapter as it always grabbed focus, but my experience of it left me walking out with my Metabones adapter still firmly in place. All tests were done in single shot mode and not continuous focus mode (shoulda done that!) An interesting side note: When I tried the cropped 18-35 f1.8 Art lens it was actually useable in full frame mode at 35mm (only) with very mild vignetting. The other interesting point I found out was that the A7RII actually registered the widest aperture at f1.7, and not the 1.8 it says on the lens, which threw us all a bit. Some people who have the a6300 as a second shooter and know just how amazing the 18-35 f1.8 is might find the cross-compatibility an even more alluring draw card, especially when utilising the A7RII's aps-c mode and tasty 5 axis stabilisation. This wasn't an in depth test or anything, but just an initial in store trial, so perhaps further testing might reveal more than my ~30 minutes in store did. Given the Sigma MC-11 adapter is still so new, and there will be countless updates from Sigma as time goes by, then this adapter will quickly prove to be a 'must have', 'can afford' adapter to add to your kit bag. A thought to leave you with its this: Imagine when Sigma finally release their 24-70 f2.8 Art lens and you can use it instead of paying hand over fist for the Sony 24-70 f2.8 G Master lens.
