FORGOTTEN MEME // @femtaile
The tunnels beneath Junkertown normally sat empty and shockingly quiet considering the never ending chaos above – a lawless town where a ruler was determined by strength and blood. The Queen's rule was absolute and her champion was perhaps a little unexpected. The creature was an alien, not of this world and where many may have counted the little guy out -- Dez had seen a world of promise.
This was his home and these were his people, but when the moon hung high in the sky he found himself alone more times than not. A sleeping city, built on trash and violence – all stilled and united under the desire to slumber. However, for a creature of his design the night was when he felt truly awake. Champ had no trouble navigating in the dark, where the broken street lamps buzzed and flickered – severely damaged from an earlier fight he navigated with ease.
Patrol was simple enough, especially outside of the mech as he moved much swifter and quieter. If anyone was sneaking around he’d know about it before they ever knew about him, and so after a quick scan he dropped below. The smell underground was stronger and helped mask a lot, it was the ideal place for someone to move undetected. That’s why he frequented the area, too many surprise attacks from Junkrat and co. had left The Queen on edge. So now not a hunk of scrap was left unturned, and that’s when he caught a whiff of something out of place. A feminine smell, but he made no mistake of what dangers that could carry. The Prince knew this scent, it was unmistakable and unique to her – what talon wanted though was another question.
Scurrying he reached the source quicker, and sure enough it was as he expected. The assassin stepped carefully and without a sound, even to his sensitive ears her steps were mere whispers on concrete. A human wouldn’t stand a chance of ever detecting her – good thing he wasn’t human. However, without a weapon it was dicey to approach. The beast sat watching her for a bit, studying her every movement and came to the conclusion that she was looking for someone or something. The Queen had an agreement with Talon, she normally did not interfere with their affairs as long as they abided by the rules of her kingdom. As far as he was aware the experiment was always respectful enough, neither side wanted a war.
Dark pools unblinking watched in silence for a bit longer, stalking her quietly on rodent paws. Until finally he decided to approach, if she was looking for someone she clearly wasn’t having any luck finding them.
An AI voice glitched in the darkness as a small light from his earring flickered to life, a little illumination he was sure she wouldn’t miss.
“G-GREETINGS. ERROR.” – squeaking.
A silent curse as he fiddled with the device allowing her to move closer to inspect this new development. If she had a feeling she was being watched, this would prove her intuition correct. The former athlete towered over him, spindly and elongated. In the dark he thought she looked more like her name suggested, less a play on words and much more literal. A creature unlike any other, the ultimate killing machine. If she ever went rogue and became a Junker he wasn’t sure he’d keep his title, but still how he longed to fight her someday. Even if it cost his life, he’d always wanted to see what the deadliest human in the world looked like. How would she move? How would she stack up against his intelligence? Would it be violent and bloody, a show of sport or more silent and lethal like a poison?
Alas, he wouldn’t get the chance to find out anytime soon. Champ was fully protected under the Queen’s rule and thus fighting against him was a fast track to a war, so like it or not she had to tolerate the kid. Giving the earring one more smack he was able to get the system back online, “THE HAMSTER SAYS HELLO. YOU ARE UNAUTHORIZED TO BE DOWN HERE, STATE YOUR BUSINESS.”
“THE HAMSTER SEES YOU DO NOT WISH TO COMPLY. THEREFOR HE SAYS HE WILL ASSIST YOU IN FINDING YOUR TARGET.”
Her voice made his ear flicker, so did he? What was her point? Logically it appeared as if she was lost, stalking around like a large cat in circles so what did that have to do with anything at all? If she needed to find a target, he could help her locate and eliminate them with much more efficiency.
“HE DOES NOT UNDERSTAND.”
“IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A T-TARG-G-ET THE HAMSTER WILL BE OF ASSISTANCE. IF THE SPIDER IS LOOKING FOR HER MAJESTY THEN HE REQUESTS THAT YOU COME BACK AT A LATER DATE WHEN THE QUEEN IS FINISHED SLEEPING. SHE DOES NOT LIKE TO BE DISTURBED DURING HER SLEEPING PERIOD.”
Without waiting for her answer he used his powerful hind legs to launch himself up onto the assassin, climbing up with tiny claws and sitting. Perfectly perched upon her shoulder – petite hand extended to point forward. The specimen was coming with her come hell or high water, the choice had already been made.
Should he have more panic? Absolutely, but Champ had lost most of that fear drive during genetic therapy. He had the mind of a curious child and was a little too overzealous and cocky when it came to life and death. All he had ever known was brutality, so he made himself comfortable – a hamster loaf on her joint.
The whole thing was rather absurd.
