Oh, we all did, Anon - including the creators themselves, who weren’t given masses of warning, to be honest.  JRo has said he originally had an additional 18 issues planned that had to be scrapped, changing how the remainder of Lost Light played out, and while I haven’t read much about John Barber’s reaction, I can only imagine it similarly screwed with his plans.

My understanding - which may be incomplete, I’ll admit - is that sales figures were not great after the “soft reboot”/let’s-renumber-everything-from-issue-1-without-changing-anything-else that followed 2016′s Revolution.  (This is a longer discussion, one I’d probably need to do a bit more research on to have properly, but the short version:  my sense is that IDW caught lightning in a bottle with MTMTE, and, in trying to use Revolution and the subsequent relaunch to transfer that lightning to its newer or less runaway-popular Hasbro titles - G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., Micronauts, and ROM - kind of let the lightning out, and lost it.  Revolution wasn’t handled well, and the relaunch disrupted both main TF series mid-plot arc.  The result was two books that were changed from what their creators had originally intended, to the point where some existing readers found them forced, but not changed enough to be new stories, or, really, appropriate jumping-on points for new readers.)

a five step decepticon guide to courting them

step one: consider why you want to court an autobot. are you really committing this atrocity? 

step two: reconsider.

step three: if you’re intent on going through with it, realize that autobot romance differs from romance as we decepticons know it. the small, weak frames prefer gifts like cards, crystals and treats. leaving large piles of weapons, in the hopes of impressing them, doesn’t work.  (nor, unfortunately, does battle trophies.) 

step four: handle with care. don’t shove them. or punch them. placing them on your lap should be handled delicately. just tuck them up against you and trap cuddle them there. 

step five: remind your autobot of your affection. they are fragile beings who need to feel ‘validated'

What Does It Mean To Be Queer In An Alien Society? - Steven Universe & Transformers IDW

Today I look at both Steven Universe and the Transformers IDW comics to answer the questions, “What does it mean to be queer in an alien society? Does it differ from human ideas of queerness? What do these two pieces of media show us to help better understand this topic?”

Idea: Decepticons and only Decepticons using the quadrant system while the Autobots go “what in the hell”

Starscream announces “Megatron is my kismesis” and Soundwave stands up slapping a club-shaped magnet on his shoulder and goes “like HELL” and Megatron goes “you can’t be my kismesis, Optimus is my kismesis” and Optimus goes “what in the world is a kissmississippi” and Skyfire, poor Skyfire who Knows, Skyfire says “it uhh it uhhhh it means he hates you, that’s all, it doesn’t mean anything else”

More serious headcanon: in MTMTE in issue 13 all the Autobots sit around and talk about who their nemesis is, you know, your nemesis, everyone’s got a nemesis—and I sorta lowkey headcanon that that’s a Cybertronian wartime-specific kismesissitude system. like, your official nemesis is someone on the enemy faction that you always fight and definitely wanna beat/kill and the feeling is totally mutual and either one of you would celebrate if the other died, but only if YOU’RE the one who did the killing; but also, like, you probably also kinda wanna fuck your nemesis. and everyone sorta, gets that. If you’re caught by a superior officer fragging an enemy soldier but you’re like “sir, this is my NEMESIS” they’ll be like “oh okay gotcha” and just sorta, leave you to it, because it’s not fraternization, that’s just what things are like between nemeses.

Optimus and Megatron are nemeses. They haven’t fragged but you can smell the sexual tension from three star systems away. Prowl and Shockwave were inches from being nemeses, both being the Cold Logical Pragmatists With Frighteningly Similar Yet Shockingly Opposite Morals, but Prowl was like “Optimus’s obsession with Megatron isn’t healthy, I should leave Shockwave open and hope that Optimus goes for him, they had a history before the war and the shadowplay,” so instead Prowl went for Starscream. Starscream spent the entire war oblivious to the fact that Prowl was making nemesis overtures at him. Consequently, no one was monitoring Shockwave, and you can see how that ended. Soundwave and Jazz played at being nemeses but it was like, a political marriage. The mutual respect was there but not the mutual loathing, but they made it work.

yeah, anyway, if people would rather read a story where:

Starscream lives to have character development, his true form, and be Windblade’s best snarky, semi-treasonous lieutenant another day

Windblade gets to collect all the best Titans (including Vigilem) in a Titan stealing rampage (and yoink Solus Prime’s hammer right out from under the Mistress of Flame’s nose)

Wheeljack has ‘fun’ wrangling a science division that includes Shockwave, Brainstorm, Nautica, and Killmaster

Arcee was in lesbians with Solus Prime (as everyone should be)

Optimus gets called out as the colonizing, imperialist asshole that he is

Onyx Prime is his own dangerous person and not Shockwave in a furry suit

All the good girl characters join the party (Arcee, Slipstream, Slash, Strongarm, Transmutate, Lightbright…)

and Unicron comes around to melt down Cybertron and pour it into the Cybertron-shaped template world from MTMTE to create a new world, and NOT POINTLESSLY KILL EVERYONE -
