I go every summer to Spain and people do have engagement rings🤔 and all Spanish royals and celebs have them
I genuinely had to google "famous spanish women's engagement rings" because I couldn't think of any, and most of what I got were young influencers. Tbh, I had completely forgotten that Spanish influencers are getting engagement rings so it might become more normal for "regular" people to get them nowadays but it's definitely still not customary (which was my point).
I know absolutely no one my parents age 50-60 and older to have had them and all of my friends are in their early twenties so no one has gotten married yet. It wouldn't surprise me though if some of them would get rings but it'd be just as well if they didn't.
I think it might become more normal for engagement rings to be expected, but as I said its really far from being a custom. At least that's my personal experience, it might be different where you vacation in.
The only Spaniard I know here is @ofprincessesandqueens so maybe she wouldn't mind telling us what she thinks?
I’m totally with you, girl. Engagement rings are not a spanish custom. It’s becoming more common, probably, influenced by the ‘merican media, but it’s not a custom and it’s not as big of a deal as it is on other countries. Aka, not such an expensive piece of high jewelry and not something people obsess over.
The only custom I see is a piece of jewelry, but it doesn’t have to be a ring. Among my mom’s generation, bracelets were the popular choice.
A lot of people do not even wear their wedding bands at all, much less an engagement ring. If it wasn’t for the Iñaki drama, nobody would had bat an eye at Letizia stopping wearing hers.
Also, the spanish media loves a story about letizia having a relationship crisis or whatever bad thing about her, because they know those are the ones that get more views and become more popular. They look for the slightest thing that they can turn into a bad story about her…
