🥊 We Bicker In the Beginning | Sebek Zigvolt x Muerte
>> commissioned: by @ferny-bread
>> a/n: this was so cute and fun to do thank you so much for commissioning me!
>> masterlist: twisted wonderland
>> summary: muerte (oc) and sebek meet for the first time
>> warning(s): none
Diasomnia’s normally gloomy atmosphere has a lighter vibe on orientation day. New students had been given their dorm garbs after being shown their sleeping quarters, and a party had commenced to welcome the incoming freshmen. Green and black banners adorn the halls, and food is bountiful in the common area. Students converse with others and bump into one another, smiling at the thought of starting a new school year at Night Raven College. The floor is covered in footprints, not a space going untouched by a student. That is, with the exception of a ring around Malleus, Lilia, Silver, and their favorite incoming freshman, Sebek.
“Of course I’d be sorted into Diasomnia,” Sebek’s voice carries across the student lounge. “They would not dare put me anywhere else!”
“Yes, yes, Sebek,” Lilia smiles, his white canines flashing. “We are all very proud of you.”
“I agree,” Malleus nods, lips forced into the tiniest hint of a grin.
“Thank you, my Liege.” Sebek all but sparkles at the dragon’s words. “Thank you, Lilia.”
“That being said, now that you’re here,” the pink-haired man trails off, “wouldn’t you want to mingle with some of your new dormmates?”
“Why would I want to do that?” Sebek scans the crowd that has kept him on edge since entering the building. “I must keep my Liege safe from any of these humans.”
“Perhaps to make new friends?” Silver asks, standing by Lilia’s side.
Sebek looks at him with a hint of disgust. “With these humans? I think not.”
“Speaking of making new friends…” Lilia turns to look around the room. “Where is… ah!”
Sebek watches as Lilia’s gaze stops at the top of the stairs. Following his line of sight, he sees no one. But, that is not uncommon for him. Lilia, a former military general, has always had better sight than Sebek despite being several hundred years older.
“Muerte, come join the fun! Meet your new dormmate!” The fae waves his hands compellingly at a figure that Sebek cannot yet see.
“Father…” Silver sighs, looking down at the man. “You know they’re not that great with friends.”
“Nonsense, nonsense.”
“Who are you—” Sebek starts, only to be cut off by Lilia.
“Shh, Sebek, you’ll see shortly,” he puts a hand up.
Grumbling, he turns to watch the stairs once again. From the stairs, Sebek watches as a black-haired person wanders down from the top platform of the staircase. As they make their way down, people part around them. If Sebek didn’t idolize Malleus as much as he does, he would say that her presence is almost as commanding as Malleus’s. As Muerte descends from the stairs, their eyes catch in the moonlight. Yellow eyes stare back at him, an unnerving presence that he does not welcome. Subconsciously, Sebek reaches for the sword attached to his side—a custom part of his dorm uniform.
“Don’t,” Silver whispers to the green-haired boy.
Sebek only deepens his frown in response.
As Muerte draws closer, Sebek’s heart pounds louder in his pointed ears.
“Lilia,” she greets the man.
“Muerte!” he smiles, nudging her slightly. “Come, come, meet Sebek. He just got placed in Diasomnia.”
“Mm,” they nod, looking the boy up and down.
“Introduce yourself,” Sebek all but demands. “And greet my Liege! Your disrespect will not go unnoticed!”
Malleus’s sigh is quiet, and goes unnoticed by Sebek’s indignation.
Muerte does not respond to Sebek’s callout, and instead chooses to stare at him a while longer.
“Well? Have you nothing to say for yourself?”
“You’re loud,” Muerte states, her voice cutting his next statement short.
“Excuse me?!” Sebek’s expression turns into one of bewilderment. “Well perhaps if you were not so quiet, you would find my tone to be perfectly normal! The loudest thing about you are those windchimes you call an earring!”
“Anyone would find you to be loud.”
“What did you say?” Sebek taunts. “I can’t hear you!”
“I had said, ‘Anyone would find you loud’,” Muerte’s voice raises, her usually silent and offputting demeanor turning into something more aggressive.
“Do not yell at me!”
“I wasn’t yelling, but if you insist maybe I’ll start!”
The two start a yelling match, causing the large gap between the group and the rest of the student body to grow deeper. Words on the verge of insults are said, and if the other three didn’t like those two as much as they do, the argument would have been curbed much sooner. As the three that aren’t bickering watch Muerte and Sebek, Lilia can’t help but snicker mischievously to Silver and Malleus.
“They’re going to be great friends,” he mutters to his two pseudo-sons.
“You say that about everyone, Father,” Silver says between yawns.
“Yes, yes, but when have I ever been wrong?”
“That is very true,” Malleus nods. “Lilia is typically right about relations.”
“Just trust me, Silver.”
“If you say so,” he sighs, his body giving up and slouching forward to lean on the man he calls his father.
Several seconds later, Sebek huffs in frustration from arguing with Muerte.
“Father, this person is rather ill-mannered and quite honestly a pain,” he frowns, creases evident between his eyebrows and atop his forehead. “I do not understand how you put up with such a person.”
“Are you sure you aren’t talking about yourself?” Muerte suggests, equally as annoyed with the green-haired boy.
“Come, come,” Lilia sighs. “You two will learn to enjoy each other’s company eventually.”
“Seems highly unlikely,” Sebek says as he crosses his arms.
All Lilia can do is smile and send a knowing look to Malleus.
