Genuinely don’t understand how anyone can have a problem with Clarisse initially choosing Annabeth and almost Percy as well, but ultimately going with Chris at Annabeth’s behest. Like it’s such a good addition that really deepens the hurt Clarisse must feel when Annabeth sneaks off WITH PERCY and then Chris will end up betraying her for Luke.
Nobody wanted to go with Charisse in the book. Not even her siblings. It’s a very plausible concept that she would’ve asked Percy and Annabeth if they hadn’t went off before she could because they were literally the only ones who actually did want to go. They’re just making that canon in the show, WHICH IS GOOD! It gives more complexity to Clarisse’s arc early on and makes sympathizing with her way easier than it is in the book. She’s still an angry teenage girl looking for glory, but she has a lot more to do character wise on screen now with this change.

It took Annabeth 5 seconds to fold and confess to Percy “we are friends and friends don’t lie” Jackson. I don’t know if Chiron overestimated Annabeth’s lying skills or underestimated Percy’s friendship powers. Boy is out here making empathy links with the power of friendship.
For years, I have remembered a very specific mermaid movie, but for the life of me I can’t remember most of it.
We’re probably talking somewhere between 1995 and 2008.
2 girls, probably frienamies, become mermaids. But not the Aquamarine/H20 kinda mermaids. These mermaids were kinda monster-looking.
What I remember from this movie is fleeting. I remember the girls being in a swimming tournament as humans. One of the girls put on an oil/lotion, which gave her the ability to jump out of the water like a dolphin. Girl number 2 found the lotion, and says “so that’s how she got those moves” and puts on the lotion. They now both swim like dolphins.
No idea what happens next.
I remember the girls, monster mermaid, being captured and put in an aquarium. I remember them sitting on a rock. A kiddo at the aquarium points and, one of the mermaids growls, and says something along the lines of “they’re looking at me like I’m a shark.”
If anyone could help me figure out what this movie or show was, I’d be grateful! Every now and then I remember these two scenes so vividly. It’s either an incredibly niche movie, like “Eye of the Dolphin” and “Zeus and Roxanne” or I dreamed this shit and never had the ability to let it go 🤣
I love this post so much I have done everything in my power to make sure I will never forget it via reblogging it every October 5th, in memory of discovering it for the first time
The confederate soldiers… I see one issue and one “hummmm”
The issue: Annabeth and Clarisse are black in the Disney+ show. Is… is Disney going to acknowledge this..? Or whitewash it..?
I could see them switching out the confederates for the British royal navy from the American Revolution. But I feel like that’d be white washing…
You may be saying “the undead soldier are such a minor plot point in the book who cares??”
I do. Why? Because what they mean for Ares and his abuse of Clarisse. Ares gave Clarisse a navy to lead of his undead soldiers specifically to upstage Poseidon and Percy. Area threatened his daughter not to embarrass him, or she’ll regret it. The confederate soldiers gifted to Clarisse is to prove Poseidon is not the only one that can master the seas. So to completely remove the concept of “defended soldiers are damned to an afterlife to my dad, so they serve me now” would remove the manipulative and abusive hold Ares has over Clarisse, which changes her character arch.
So yes, they need to keep the undead navy. But what will they do? :
1) Replace the confederates with the British
2) Keep the confederates and completely ignore the clearly racial element (therefore whitewashing the history)
3) Keep the confederates and actually acknowledge this history (personally, I’d pay to see a confederate forced to serve black-and-proud Captain Clarisse La Rue)
4) Remove the concept completely and change Clarisse’s character arch
“Hummmm”: if I am remembering HoO correctly (it’s been about 10 years since I last read HoO) the reason the Greeks and the Romans were split was because they couldn’t get along. This quote is from the Riordan Wiki Fandom:
“Though they ultimately ended up forgetting about each other, the war mirrored the American Civil War. It is unknown if there was a winner in the war. It is however implied, that the Greeks emerged victorious over the Romans, as the Greeks represented the Union side, whereas the Romans fought on the Confederate side.”
The Demigod Civil War (also known as the First Demigod Civil War) was a war between Roman and Greek demigods in 1864, involving a battle in
So, are the undead soldiers on the CSS Birmingham Roman Demi-gods…? Hummmmm

do you think thalia ever lies awake at night feeling guilty about zeus choosing to save her life while he let jason just die with no regret or sympathy
Okay I’m about 80 pages into Wrath of the Triple Goddess so I could be jumping the gun here.
SPOILERS
I just finished chapter 10, “I Catch a Nope”
Leading up to chapter 10, more specifically, the end of chapter 9, this is Percy’s inner monologue (pages 76-77)
“My brain was full of static. My hands felt numb. I didn’t realize I had grabbed Gayle’s harness until spikes started biting into my palm. I snatched up Hecuba’s leash, then headed for the front door.
I remembered Hecate’s triple-headed form in the principals office. I have been threatened by a lot of gods over the years. With Hecate it hit differently — beyond the usual obey me now bluster. Maybe it was because Hecate had power over the Mist. Something about her made me doubt my own sanity. Like perhaps all goddesses were supposed to have a three different faces at once. Perhaps toilet should be on the ceiling. Perhaps polecats were different than weasels.
I felt like if she punished me for wrecking her house and, even worse, losing her beloved pets, I wouldn’t just die. I would dissolve, rewritten, erased from reality. I would doubt myself right out of existence. She could control what mortals saw and what they thought. That was basically the same as controlling who they were.
The idea terrified me. It made me wanna crawl into the eel’s tank and hide. I guess that’s why I felt so angry. I couldn’t let myself get dissolved into the Mist. And I definitely couldn’t let that happen to Grover or Annabeth.”
Then, we jump to chapter 10, “I Catch a Nope” :
Percy is describing Mrs. O’Leary as her own person, living her best life at Camp Jupiter, and playing with her friend Houdini the Elephant. His dog is living her best life, as a hellhound. While we love Mrs. O’Leary, in the PJO world, she is a monster. When/if she dies, she’ll come back. And Percy “ felt bad about calling her, expecting her to shadow Travel all the way across the country” (pages81-82).
This poor kid. His inner monologue goes:
“I missed my dog.
Yes, I wanted to go to New Rome University to be with Annabeth. No doubt about that. But I also felt like part of my heart was already there. I had good friends among the Roman demigods. I half brother Tyson lived there. Mrs. O’Leary spent most of her time at Camp Jupiter. She liked the food in the mess hall. She liked the elephant. She liked the whole package.
Maybe I should write an application essay about that. I want to go to your university because my dog lives there. Or maybe not” (pages 82-83).
Listen. Both Percy and Annabeth have been through so much. So. Freaking. Much.
Annabeth doesn’t need these university recommendation letters - she supports Percy though this journey because that’s what they do for each other.
Percy needs these letters of recommendation. Why? His grades aren’t as good as Annabeth’s, but they’re not awful. Percy was already been elected as a praetor of Camp Jupiter, so technically speaking, he has a better networking relationship with New Rome University than Annabeth, just based on pure Juno/Hera-shenanigans.
Their resumes are nearly identical in terms of quests completed. Yes, there are differences: Annabeth’s quest for Athena’s status is hers and hers alone. Percy & Friends (Hazel and Frank) fought in the lands beyond the gods. But by—and— large, most of their quest accomplishments were completed as a team, including the Great Prophecy of the OG PJO 5-book series.
But now here we are, in a spin-off, post Heroes of Olympus. Annabeth is accepted into college. Percy is not. Not without these recommendation letters. Why?
Well, for that, we go back to Chalice of the Gods, pages 12-14. Percy is having a conversation with Poseidon underwater:
“‘I just want to get into New Rome University.’ I said. ‘Isn’t there a way you can…?’ I wiggled my fingers trying to imitate God like magic that can make problems disappear. Not that I’d ever seen such a thing. Gods are much better at magically, creating problems then making them go away.
Poseidon combed his mustache with the tip of his trident. How he did that without cutting his face, I don’t know.
‘Unfortunately,’ he said, ‘ those recommendation letter letters are the best I could do. They are the only way the Olympian council will let you work off your debt.’
…
‘I haven’t gotten any student debt’ I said. ‘I haven’t even been accepted yet.’
‘Not student debt,’ Poseidon said. ‘This is the debt you owe for… Existing.’
My heart sank. ‘You mean for being a child of the big three. Your kid.’
…
‘I thought we moved past this,’ I muttered. ‘I helped you fight the Titans—’
‘I know,’ my dad said.
‘And Gaea and the giants.’
‘I know.’
‘And—’
‘My son.’ The edge and his voice told me it would be best to stop at listing my greatest hits. ‘If it were up to me, I would wave this ridiculous requirements altogether. Alas, someone’ — he glared up, someone being code for my unreasonable, brother Zeus — ‘is a stickler for the rules. You are never supposed to be born, so you are technically ineligible for New Rome University.’”
Percy is in this situation because the gods still. Do not. Except him.
So, what does all this have to do with wrath of the triple god us, and chapter 9?
I am genuinely waiting for this poor kid to crash out. I am waiting for Annabeth to truly look at him and tell him “Tell me.”
I am waiting for this poor kid to just melt into despair and doubt and, on some level, self hatred because he’s not supposed to be there. Everyone, including the gaslighting of Hecate, does not want him there, does not accept his presence. I’m waiting for this poor kid to crash out so hard before he spirals into dark!Percy.
And the one to bring him out of it? The same person that’s been with him the whole time. She had her own crash out, way back in Sea of Monsters. He pulled her together when her world folded in on itself. Goddamnit. I just want someone to hold Percy together. Genuinely, at the end of chapter 9, he’s ready to implode on Grover. Sure, Grovers screwed up. But the reason they are in any of this mess at all is because of something he had no control over: the god-pack after World War II, and his conception. Everything, from TLF to here, this poor kid is just trying to live his life. And despite everything, everything, he still has to prove himself.
I’m just saying, I would’ve crashed out a long long time ago.
Okay I’m approaching 30 years old. I’m old as fuck.
Don’t get me wrong I’m excited about Inside Out 2. But Luca?????
Why do I not remember a marketing campaign for Luca??? This movie is beautiful to look at, has a stunning message, and is cute as hell in innocence. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like Luca is hella underrated.
Inside out, as much of a masterpiece as it is, ain’t got nothing on the simplistic beauty of Luca.

I picked up the Lighting Thief while in was at a Target with my mom while I was in 8th grade. I hated reading. I hated it. I’d rather do a multiplication table test then partake in popcorn reading (if you know you know, and if you know how much I HATE math that means something).
I’m sitting here right now post-episode 8 (yes I did cry like a baby thank you for asking) watching the behind the scenes documentary A Hero’s Journey.
8th grade me could have NEVER imagined the journey PJO would take. Or the journey I would take in the years of The Lightning Thief to the Sun and the Star, all the way to a freaking faithful series adaptation.
PJO introduced me to fandom. I remember seeking out PJO fan fiction because The Lost Hero came out, there was no Percy, and it was going to be a year long wait to figure out where this “other camp” was. I remember finding every Viria fan art I could find. It’s not even funny how many times over I’ve watched the Viria “How Far We’ve Come” music art video since the drop of episode 1
PJO taught me to love reading. PJO lead me to Hunger Games, Legend and The Young Elites, Rot & Ruin, The Hate U Give, An Ember in the Ashes, Born A Crime, Island of Sea Women, Alex Rider, A Woman of No Importance, Skyhunter, Eragon, Barrackkn: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo”, The Sun is Also A Star, Revolution for Dummies, and so so so so many more. It’s because of PJO that I have flown on the backs of dragons, won and lost revolutions, been to the ends of Tartarus and Isihogo (Twice!), saw the world through a spy’s eyes, been the villain, been the hero, and lived more lives than one is allowed to live in one life.
That 8th grader in Target had no idea what she was getting herself into. And I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Thank you Uncle Rick. Thank you to the whole Disney+ Team that made this season reality.
Uncle Rick. Thank you for a million of your stories, and a million more that you opened up to me.
(Every title and author is tagged below if you want to see more 🩵)
I’m already thinking ahead to season 2 (gods willing).
As far as season 1 goes, I’m loving the changes, the characters, the story, about 95% of everything. How much I am LOVING Grover so much more in the tv show is honestly surprising me.
The only thing I’m truly confused by is not talking about his desire for a Searcher License at all, or even what that is. We actually already got to SEE the Council of Cloven Elders (which we don’t see in the books until book 4). So when we saw him go to the Elders, I thought that he going to discuss his Searcher License. But, na, it was leaning about Sally being stolen by Hades. (Which, I’m on board with the change. I really like the idea of Grover trying to make up Percy’s trust after getting him kicked out of Yancy Academy.).
But to not touch on the Pan Searchers License storyline… hear me out.
We saw a statue of Uncle Ferdinand as he “was on her own quest.” But as an audience we don’t know what that quest was that killed him.
Without knowing that all satyr’s are on a quest to find Pan, what would Grover leave camp for at the end of season 1? Post TLT quest, a non-reader audience member would assume Grover would be reassigned to a new halfblood in the mortal world, OR continue work at camp (strawberry fields, working with the pegasi, etc.).
Long story short, how is Grover gonna end up faking a wedding with Polyphemus? I’m wondering if the Pan storyline is going to be followed at all. (Which would be fine, the Pan storyline is not integral to the overall story.).
But…. The Pan storyline is literally what gets SoM started, and how Percy is able to involve himself in Clarisse’s quest. With how loyal the tv series start is, (literally quoting page 1 of TLT) I’m genuinely curious/worried as to how season 2 “gets going” without Grover starting his search for Pan….. Damn, even the SoM Movie had that storyline!
I’m probably jumping the gun here. The first 3 episodes are so much more than my 8th grade heart could have asked for! I’m genuinely so happy!!
Just thinking ahead…. I’m worried about the show being written into a hole.
Rant over. Back to waiting for next Tuesday at 9pm EST on the dot!
