sozin09 got blocked for this nonsense but i wanted y’all to see how mfers really try to assign blame to Katara and absolve Aang of any wrongdoing.

This is a reply to my post outlining the times Aang hurt Katara even after she warned him not to do something out of concern for him.

1) Katara was practicing waterbending at the riverside like she always does when Aang began to recklessly firebend against instruction and burned her. He was warned by multiple people not to and he still did it with no care for his surroundings and who he could hurt with his actions. That is not simply “a mistake”. Perhaps a mishap, but not a mistake. Aang does try to reduce the burden of responsibility by claiming it was a mistake while he was apologizing (nullifying his apology). Sokka tackles him before Katara runs off and even after he lets him go, Aang does not go after Katara. He does not reflect on his own actions and simply believes “he was not ready to firebend” and vows to never firebend again. That is not a punishment, especially since he wasn’t supposed to learn firebending until later anyway.

When Katara finds him, Aang does not try to apologize again, doesn’t even ask her if she’s alright, and is instead sulking and so Katara has to comfort him and there is no time for anything else because Zhao is attacking camp.

This is not the episode where Aang “learns how to control his bending in a calm state”. He uses airbending to evade like he always does and utilizes Zhao’s lack of awareness to burn his own boats. Aang does not try to apologize again.

2) Regardless if Aang’s rage is understandable, the point was that Katara was burdened with a a responsibility she did not want and that went unaddressed by everyone in the group. However, this analysis of Aang’s actions is so off the mark, I must address them.

Aang does not care about the rest of the group in The Desert and leaves them multiple times. He is not trying to find Appa so he can get everyone out of the desert. He snaps at them, specifically Katara, despite her having not being at any fault and actually being the one to keep everyone alive.

The uncontrolled Avatar State is a dangerous weapon that can kill everyone and destroy everything without discrimination. Aang has a right to be angry, however his anger leads him to losing control of himself and potentially killing innocent people, including his friends, and that he does not have a right to do. Never mind that if he kills the sandbenders, he will not have any leads about where to find Appa.

3) That is not the same as Katara in The Southern Raiders. Katara is in complete control of her own actions and has a directed target for her anger. She is seeking justice for a horrific crime that she believed she’d never be able to get justice for. She is not killing anyone in her path or threatening the lives of her loved ones, she is trying to confront one specific man. Aang and Sokka do not warn her about “reckless behavior”, instead they try to control her behavior and tell her to forgive the man who killed her mother and would’ve killed her if not for her mother’s sacrifice. Trying to imply that Aang’s rage is more justified than Katara’s because Appa is alive and Kya is “already dead” is disgusting.

Sokka was going to take Appa without telling anyone in The Boiling Rock, but when Katara decides to take Appa (neither Aang or Appa would even be there without her freeing them from that iceberg btw) after asking Aang and Aang being horribly insensitive, it’s a problem.

Zuko chose to go with Katara and they protected each other in order to minimize risk. Trying to pin recklessness and irresponsibility on Katara for seeking closure and justice is once again disgusting.

He doesn't go against her instruction because no one told him not to firebend, she told him to be careful at the first time and nothing happene, katara still worried doesn't move away and aang does a move and she's burnt. No one told him not to firebend, he was reckless yes but that's different. She saw he was playing with fire and told him twice to be careful and she still didn't move away. He was literally playing away in the water lmoa. Him burning is by mistake, that's literally the definition of it. Unless you're trying to say he did intentionally to hurt her. How is that nullifying his apology??? Lmaoo he literally jumps towards her and apologizes TWICE because it IS a mistake from HIM as in he didn't mean to hurt her, but of course he apoglizes TWICE and tries to help her, Sokka tackles him and shouts at him and literally traumatizes him, katara runs away and and sokka runs away from him too, a sign that he should stay away because he did something bad, Jeong Jeong also says everyone has to pack and leave because they are in danger, it was literally shown he was meditating and reflecting on his own actions and vows NOT to firebend because he hurt her, THATS the reason, you don't make sense at all. It's jeong who tells him he's not ready, and aang initially says he is, it's only after he hurts her and he is deeply hurt of his actions and vows not to firebend again. He doesn't say at some point I'll master it, he says he'll NEVER firebend again, and avoids to learn it again it's because of the traumatic event that occured by hurting her. That's not just acknowledging he's not just ready to master it at the moment lmao. He also apoglizes twice and the scene we see her telling him I am healed, and she tells him Jeong is in danger and he dashes out to save him.

He doesn't try to apologize because he already did twice, and his posture is of regret and and sadness that's why katara says 'it's okay I am healed' because she sees he's in so much regret he promises not to firebend. He's not sulking, nor does she comfort him lmao, she just says that she's healed and tells that Jeong is in danger. Yes in this fight he actually learns not to be reckless and chastises zhao about it, he also gets burned. He shows zhao and makes fun of him that his bending is out of control, and from this episode he becomes much less reckless.

That's the point of the episode lmao. He realizes the dangers of beings reckless

2) No No, there is no 'regardless' here, his whole actions are because he was angered that his only family and friend from the past is gone and possibly DEAD, let's see how kataras reaction would be if her own mother was taken and kidnapped infront of her lmao. Similar to how she burdened the group in the water scroll, jets episode, painted lady etc, she can be burdened here too, and you seem to ignore the fact she's burdened because of things out the groups control, they're all disfunctional. Sokka is mentally disfunctional because of cactus juice, toph is physically dysfunctional because she can barely see in the sand, and aang is emotionally dysfunctional because he's hurt, and sokka also kinda makes fun of it indirectly implying appa is just a viechle.

Aang has selflessly saved the group multiple times, he does care. And that's not how the episode went. He snaps because he's in deep hurt at first, then gets angry because sokka indirectly states he sees appa as just a viechle. Aang has all right to be angry and be in hurt here, it's a moment of vulnerability. Then, he tries to look for appa in his gliders while he's near to the group, had the group not found the boat everyone would be dead. So no, he doesn't leave the group at all. He literally comes back still angry, he yells what are you doing because he's still hurt. He's human. And everyone understood that, that's why nobody held a grudge. Anyways, aang doesn't even leave them, he comes back after trying to find appa and listens to katara to bring water from the clouds. He's cooperating despite being angry.

What is this nonsensense? Aang knows all of this, at this point he does NOT control the avatar state, and as soon as he enters it (without his control) he is basically unconscious. He does not control the avatar state, the reason he went into it is because deep anger and hurt, these emotions are out of his control and him entering it is out of control. And we do see aang trying to control it in episode 1 book 2. Funnily enough it was katara who was against that idea because she hates seeing him in such state.

You're right they're not similar because it's worse for Kataras case Ha! In Aangs case his danger comes from only going to the avatar state, something he does not control he is not aware of his actions, katara on the other hand is same AND aware. Yet she risks everything for her revenge. Let's see here. She knows how important appa is to aang, yet she attempts to steal him for her selfish desires even tho sokka loves his mother yet sees aang is in the right here, she also endangers them by being captured. Imagine if Katara, zuko, AND appa gets captured? Aang would have no fire bending teacher, no appa to travel, he'd literally fail his mission against ozai. In this episode Katara does the same thing aang did. She demeans sokkas feelings towards his mother, and sokka is hurt because of it, she also tells aang he doesn't understand! AANG who saw his father figures burnt skeletal corpse! Who had his whole nation genocided! And she doesn't apoglize later on! It's not disgusting to compare because being mad and reckless over someone still living being kidnapped early on in the series where that same person is needed either way for survival is MUCH different than being reckless and endangering everyone for the sake of revenge.

I don't know whats your point here about mentioning sokka because it does not dimnish her action, because what he did would be wrong too. Nobody says it wasnt. And yet, it's much more convincing, and aang would 100% would not have a problem with it. Since the reason he wanted to take appa is because he wanted to save HIS FATHER. THATS DIFFERENT FROM TAKING APPA AT NIGHT TO AN ENEMY SHIP FOR REVENGE.

No, zuko went with her because hes the only one who knows where the ship is, and know the whereabouts of the killer. The whole episode is him not understanding kataras pain and why shes angry at him, so he uses this leverage by using sokka to redirect her anger to something else, which was very dangerous because had she killed the man she'd had went to a very dark path similar to hamma, because she too began killing enemies only at the beginnin. That is why zuko tells aang he was right about what katara needed.

4) out of all your responses this is by far the worse because it shows you haven't watched the episode in ages. Aang supported that dissicion because he wanted to support katara. He literally says what has happened has happened. We might as well learn from it, and he smiles at her. Because he knows she needs it, and we literally see in the episode it was her using it most of the time, aang wasn't even much interested and when he did try to train, Katara lashes at him because of jealousy. Sokka literally says aang was dupped and she took the scroll for herself lmao.

Even after she apologizs, her actions nullified it right afterrr just look here. She sneaks away, took the scroll AGAIN even tho she said she's sorry and he can have it for once and trains alone, she took the scroll for HER, and she's mad aang is more capable. Anyways, she trains somewhere alone and is kidnaped by the pirates, she risk everyone and without aang shed be dead, despite it being her fault, aang the good person he is denies irohs claim and says she's not at fault to not make her feel bad, had they been successful sokka and katara would be dead, and aang would've been kidnapped and killed by ozai. Look at what she says at the end, does this seem like a person who learnt from her mistakes?
