Odysseus crew speaks in an elderly man the man does in fact speak in Greek and for some reason they needed a translator to say what the old man would say even though they are supposed to be Greeks who speak the same damn language.
Remember that scene in Ξ ΞΟΞΌΞΉΟΟΞ± ΟΞ·Ο ΞΞΟΞΊΟ ΟΞ±Ο when someone asked his colleague to translate something from Greek into Italian and the guy started "translating" in Greek, so Guy No 1 tells Guy No 2: "What are you doing? Why are you translating Greek into Greek?" and Guy No 2 responds: "Well they speak Greek!" ?

My mind started to spiral after reading this. Because not only is the idea of Odysseus' crew not knowing Greek is ridiculous and suggests that they are all actually speaking modern-English... This isn't the first time I've witnessed this from a retelling of Greek Mythology. I vividly remember how in Lore Olympus, there's a scene where Hades and Persephone just switch into Greek when talking to each other, and it's supposed to be them being secretive. In front of people who are supposed to speak Greek. And there's another scene where Persephone just speaks modern-French.

Thats Yannis Kokiasmenos right?? So they shot this scene in Greece which is not supposed to be Greece, where a Greek man who speaks Greek, speaks to the ah. "greeks" whose native tongue is clearly modern usa english, therefore branding the ancient NYC folk over there larping as Greeks, as the legit(TM) Greeks while the actual fucking Greek guy in Greece speaking Greek is a foreigner & NOT Greek & the language he speaks is not Greek?! And the Indian guy & from what i hear another afroamerican(?) are the ones who stress that "we're Greeks, from Ithaca, maybe you've heard of us" talking TO A GREEK MAN? What the actual FUCK? Also i cant hear all the dialogue well & they talk more, so what are they saying before and after this? *dreads* SO THATS what they did with the one Greek guy from Greece???!!!
And also what about Michael Vlamis, the only other (diaspora) Greek in this mess
what did they do with him, his profile now says "bandit β’ priest from Pylos" & also no name, and he said he shot his small part in Favignana which is supposed to be ancient NYC i mean Ithaca, together with Damon, Pattinson & Holland, so if thats how they *deliberately* treated Kokiasmenos, i shudder to think how they treated him too, Nolan knows he's part Greek! *dreads*
Yes that was the scene and I was left confused people who praise the film completely didn't bother to even mention the issues decisions like this brought on the movie. Again Nolan does Greeks dirty by exploiting our culture and twisting historical facts
I was expecting that the hollywood Brit wouldnt be able to resist writing something about how "we" the north/westerners "are the actual Greeks, and You" directed at actual Greeks "are Not" but holy shit i was not expecting him to do something like this, to have his ancient NYC cast say it directly TO a Greek who he wrote NOT to be Greek. I underestimated him, i was expecting something more subtle, and definitely wasnt expecting him to use Greek as the vehicle for him to do that, he was actually so confident that using the Greek language wasnt gonna bite him in the ass? Like yeah he clearly thinks Greeks will just sit back and do nothing about this whole monstrosity, this scene included, but did it really never occur to him, that even though it will initially fly over peoples heads that this is Greek language & that this is a Greek man speaking, that soon enough people will find out & it will look BAD to them too? People are already commenting on the ridiculousness of the Indian saying "we're Greeks, we're from Ithaca, maybe you've heard of our deeds" in american english, because they already see the first part of the message before they've even seen the Greeks pointing at this & going WTF Nolan?
And Oh remember the whole discussion about nolan deciding on using English & not Greek, as well as using american & not Greek accents, not to mention Holland directly admiting the "dad" conversation whould've been in Greek & therefore indirectly admiting they should have been speaking Greek instead, and now we found out they did THIS? Also Holland admiting that, sounds really grimly amusing now, he clearly didnt know the language in the scene was Greek, i wonder if any of the others in the scene did
