Something I like about transfem Jax as a concept is that most trans stories I see are about an already out trans person and it's just part of their past as a background thing. There's obviously plenty of exceptions to that, and it's not bad to have it in their past of anything, but I like Jax's story showing off a lot of the harm that can come from repressing and being in denial it's pretty cool

i think every publisher should have to institute a ban on books that fail what i’m calling the “little life” and “what else?” tests

i don't know the first thing about writing but honestly this makes sense. a story, no matter how personal, isn't compelling because something happened. it's compelling because the thing that happened affected people emotionally. even bedtime stories include details that make you feel how scary the dragon is or how brave the knight is. if you're just recanting things that happen without exploring the emotional effect in some specific way, it's a wikipedia plot summary.
