And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

"I highlight that we do not need to intentionally go out of our way to be different. Living commandments and keeping covenants will make us peculiar enough. But we cannot afford to be inwardly-focused and Church-exclusive in our relationships."

I mean... I don't hate it. 🤘🏼
There is strife and contention over the kingdom—Akish forms an oath-bound secret combination to slay the king—Secret combinations are of the
“And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not.”
This is why I voted the way I did. Hopefully we don’t trade one corrupt government for another.
One king succeeds another—Some of the kings are righteous; others are wicked—When righteousness prevails, the people are blessed and prosper
Who Does God Use?
Many Latter-day Saints and others have denounced Donald Trump and/or members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who voted for Donald Trump as President of The United States of America. They generally cite Trump’s past and legal troubles as to why he doesn’t deserve support.
Even if you don’t think the legal system was weaponized against him, applying a moral code to him he doesn’t apply to himself is unjust as a member of the Church: The Book of Mormon has many examples of leaders who were good leaders, but not righteous personally. “[Morianton] did do justice unto the people, but not unto himself because of his many whoredoms; wherefore he was cut off from the presence of the Lord.”
“And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

First Elk Hunt
I took my sons out to hunt for their first elk last month. I had taken Lincoln out last year on one of my hunts, where we slept in bivy bags under the stars; great memory. I wasn't interested in hunting for myself this year. They took hunter education, and wanted to go out this year. Deer population is still suffering after the brutal winter two years ago, so I opted to just get them elk tags.
"There is a point in the history of society when it becomes so pathologically soft and tender that among other things it sides even with those who harm it, criminals, and and does this quite seriously. Punishing somehow seems unfair to it, and it is certain that imagining 'punishment' and ' being supposed to punish' hurts it, arouses fear in it. 'Is it not enough to render him undangerous? Why still punish? Punishing itself is terrible.' With this question, herd morality, the morality of timidity, draws its ultimate consequence."

A Life Without
I found this draft from many years ago. I don’t know why I never posted it, because I like, and still feel, its sentiment.

I regularly witness friends and family that disavow their faith, and their faith-based ties in some cases. I understand why many do this. I have spent the last two years struggling to exist as an older undergraduate student; having witnessed many personal miracles, I still doubt regularly. The world is chaotic and confusing. That includes the recent and former history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “Truth” abounds. Alternating perspectives defines many peoples’ reality, and there’s no way to prove universal truth beyond the sciences (even then, it’s often not possible). All of those things have played a part in my own efforts to dissuade myself from believing in my faith. I have doubted my own ability to trust what I feel and think. I have doubted my memories, even when recorded in journals.
While I understand why people I love and respect abandon their faith, I don’t understand what keeps them going. This is the thing that perpetuates my exploration of my faith: life without afterlife is hopeless, and life without knowing what the afterlife is creates lifelong anxiety. If I say there is no God, that I die and am nothing, why live? If I say that God’s there, but I don’t know Him or His plan, I have no basis for my life and no way of knowing what awaits me after death. I could not live in either one of these scenarios. I understand people do. I don’t discount their experience. I don’t understand it. So, I choose to believe, because I know of no other way to exist. I think we all choose what to believe, regardless of truth. Indeed, the Book of Mormon suggests this is expected:
“But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words” (Alma 32:27).
I understand why people choose to believe their past faith was incorrect, misplaced, or misunderstood. I have no negative judgment toward them, and hope those I know that have followed other paths don’t abandon our relationships. I hope they won’t say all was lost in their season of belief and throw off their history as a sick man discarding a hospital gown.
Be conservative in what you do, be liberal in what you accept from others.

I’ve had doctors, even dentists, insist I be on blood pressure medication even though my reading was around 130/85, and they didn’t ask about caffeine, diet, or lifestyle at all. It’s infuriating. I’ve only had one good doctor take time to treat causes rather than symptoms.

Best MST3k…? Maybe.
And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good.
-2 Nephi 33:10, Book of Mormon
