My name is Sonia Kats, a transgender refuge a leader and Human Rights Defender advocating for LGBTQ+ refugees in the camp. Our community is facing serious challenges
Life for us as LGBTQIA+ refugees is extremely difficult. Many of us fled our home countries because of violence discrimination and threats to our lives simply for being who we are. Sadly even in the refugee camp we still face a lot of homophobia and transphobia from others around us.
Because of discrimination, it is also difficult for many of us to find small jobs or ways to support ourselves. This leaves our community relying on the kindness and solidarity of people who care about human rights and dignity.
Despite all this, we continue to support each other, raise our voices and advocate for the safety and rights of LGBTQIA+ refugees. Any support sharing of our story or kindness from people
We struggle every day with very basic needs. Food is often not enough, clean water is limited, and getting proper medical care is very hard. Some members of our community are living with HIV and cannot always access the medication they need Shelter is also a big challenge especially during bad weather
