I originally started watercolors with the main aim of painting botanicals. This never really happened (too difficult 🙊) but sometimes I still try. I found it surprisingly easy to sketch this quite complex torch ginger but surprisingly difficult to color the petals (they always seem to look overworked immediately 🤔). Anyway, I like the result for what it is, even if it's not what I had in mind. Materials: Schmincke Horadam watercolors, Arches hot pressed paper, masking fluid. For the first time in my life I was asked to sell one of my paintings by a friend who was looking for a birthday gift. As the painting he wanted to buy was in a sketchbook and thus not easy to give away, we turned it into a commission which was also kind of a paint this again challenge. 😊 What a wonderful experience and great honor! I am currently ill and unable to paint, so good thing I prepared and photographed the last entry for the #rainforestextravaganza challenge last weekend already! To be honest, the part of this picture I enjoyed painting the most were the leafs in the background 🙈 I found the faces super difficult and am not very satisfied with the result. If I am not mistaken, this bird is an Australian yellow whyte eye. 3 strategies to find time for my hobby despite a busy schedule: 1) Scale down the projects 2) Simplify the process 3) Integrate the hobby into everyday life activities. Every day is a new year and I always have resolutions. My latest one is to be persistent - not only with my art.
