The Friends of the Somerville Public Library have been invited post a team at the upcoming Cause and Event 5K being run in Arlington on May 17th. $15 of each entry fee of FSPL team members will go back to the Friends, so please join us by picking our name from the list as you register. This is an 8AM-happening, chip-timing, free tshirt-getting fun run, that happens to be on the last Sunday of our May book sale - so the Friends will also handout a $10 booksale voucher to anyone that signs up for our team as an additional thanks. It will be a celebration of body and mind!

The Friends of the Somerville Public Library will hold their Spring Book Sale on Friday May 15th 12-4 PM, Saturday May 16th 10-4 PM, and Sunday May 17th 1:30-3:30 PM.

The sale will be held at the Central Library located at 79 Highland Avenue (bus #88 or #90). Supporting Members of the Friends (those with memberships of $50 or more) are invited to attend a preview evening on Thursday May 14th from 5-8pm. This year's collection of books for sale includes all categories (History, Biography, Arts, Foreign Language including Russian, Japanese, Spanish and French), plus lots of DVDs, and as always - plenty of fiction. Kids books $1, all else $2. All proceeds from the book sale are used to support cultural and educational programs at the library including the popular Museum Pass Program. Leftover books will be donated to local non-profit groups or sold online. Please contact the Friends to be considered for a book donation. Screening at 1pm of Jay Craven’s “Where the Rivers Flow North” (from book by Howard Frank Mosher -recommend), preceded by trailer for Sumner McKane’s new documentary “Maine Frontier:Through The Lens of Isaac Simpson”. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE SOMERVILLE GROWING CENTER!

20 years? Now THAT is cause for celebration. The Somerville Community Growing Center has been building community through gardening and growing plants since 1994. Can you believe it? Time flies when you are hosting great events, providing a place for kids to discover and teaching an entire city about growing.To celebrate, they are planning a series of parties and get togethers and the first one is this week (drum roll, please):

Kick-off event: Get Growing with Seeds! THIS Thursday, March 27, 6:30-8:30pm Somerville Public Library Central Library Community Room, 79 Highland Ave Seed swap, seed starting demonstrations—and a birthday celebration for long time volunteer “the Tomato Guy’s” 90th birthday. Please join us!
