“Look I’m sorry Lieutenant Colonel but a target that fortified requires we send in Main Battle Craft. I’m aware of your opinions but-“
“Those god damn freak pilots can’t be trusted! Every time I lead a joint task force with those fucking things-those mechs- I always always lose men to one of those bastards crushing them! I can’t place my troops within a fucking kilometer of their area of operations or it puts my men at unnecessary risk from friendly fire. You want to use your mechs to take that bunker then by all means have it, but you’re not getting any more of my men killed supporting those freaks.”
-Partially recovered conversion between Lt Colonel James Philips of the 45th Combined Arms Combat Brigade and Major Alenko of the 3rd Main Battle Craft Squadron. Log indicates the conversion took place 1 hour 17 minutes before Operation Cross-hook* (see addendum)
Being in army logistics has to be so ass, im reading an army published guide on resupply and there’s a bit here that basically says, “Sometimes battlefield conditions will make it so your logistics vehicles get separated or miss a rendezvous, now you won’t people to protect those so don’t let this happen”
So basically let battlefield conditions create conditions on the battlefield
Also we know what your main issue will be and fuck you we arent fixing it
I read an article from some major or some such who used the HHC stryker to provide security for his logistics during simulated combat and though that added like 10 months training and had some other issues it seemed like a decent way to cover the glaring weakness that army supply trains are basically unguarded
sniling sneetly
No one asked but I think a solid military designation for mechs that doesn’t use the word frame is Main Battle Assault Craft (MBAC)
That gives them the nickname m-backs right away and to me that seems like what non pilots in the setting would call them
I like it. However, while Main Battle and Assault aren't terms that contradict each other, the Main part of Main Battle Tank refers to the fact that the MBT is versatile enough to cover primary combat roles, particularly the ones that used to be split among the types of tank that came before it (heavy, medium, light etc.) which covers defensive roles, armored recon roles, fire support roles, and of course, direct assault roles.
A Main Battle Craft sounds like it already includes Assault in its repertoire
Thank you!
I was trying to find the distinction for the Main Battle part of MBTs and just kept getting results about the ww1 origin of the term tank.
Main Battle Craft is pretty good, MBC still has a nice psuedo military feel to me
I think in terms of support personnel it would be similar to a helicopter squadron, at least in broad strokes, but I can’t decide on numbers of MBC per squadron or come up with a reasonable sounding number for support personnel. Im tempted to say a squadron would be four MBC with a company to support.
Sounds good to me. In the worldbuilding project I have I'm taking a lot of inspiration from fighter plane arcade games like Ace Combat and Project Wingman, so the mechs are usually deployed with supporting search and rescue teams to pick them up if they're forced to eject
Oh that’s smart. I was thinking the support units would have salvage/towing capability for each mech in the squadron with teams dedicated to each mech. So if mech A gets its arm shot off and mech B loses a leg there’s separate recovery teams going after parts from each mech. The mech pilot never has to think about any of this but theres like 50 people making sure they can keep fighting.
I don’t have any real ideas for a setting or a story or even characters really. I just dont really fuck with Frame being part of a military style acronym for mechs so I wanted an alternative.
Although I think it could be something to explore the relationship between a mech pilot and her Forward Observer who has boots on the ground painting targets and doing rangefinding. It wouldn’t even be like an inverse handler/hound thing, just interesting to have someone who’s basically a god on the battlefield but a newborn off of it talking to a person who’s unable to do damage on the battlefield but off of it has a huge advantage over the pilot
Could be neat

Madman idea for transporting water to a planet’s surface for space war purposes, big ass block of ice in a storage container you drop from low orbit
These ice cubes are enough to keep a single division from thirstin to death
Just a big honking storage container with an asston of parachutes and maybe a rocket or two to help slow down
The army is gearing up for ww3 meanwhile their entire logistical plan for water is to just keep neglecting the mass water purification systems and bring bottled water to the front
Fucking gg these dipshits are absolutely gonna lose every war they start

The us military has been spending years gearing up for how they want ww3 to go
Its all gonna be division level combat where the us retains the technological edge and used maneuver warfare to overwhelm the enemy and blah blah hoorah
One of the weirder ideas they have is that so many enemies are going to be fielding standing body armor that effectively negates what’s currently the standard nato rifle round. So the solution? And folks you’ll love this, the solution is of course a new round that weighs more!
This of course means reducing mag sizes and total ammo carried onto the field
An automatic rifleman equipped with the M250 rocks into a fight with a full TWO HUNDRED less rounds than if they had an M249 and a mag that’s only half the capacity! Which is you know, ideal for your fire team’s suppressive fire base. Oh and of course standard grunts carry less rounds in lower capacity mags as well.
Also complimenting eventually sustainment issues the army wants for some reason, the squad infantry vehicle! Did you ever wish that every single infantry squad now needed vehicle maintenance and supply? Well too bad fuck face! Also still not sure what the security plan is for these things, you’re supposed to hop out and leave em behind before going into a fight so is your approach load just sitting back on a set of hijackable or destroyable wheels?
Oh and lets not forget wiping out the support battalion in favor of the super planning heavy General Support Company
Boy now that all your squads can really spread out before needing ammo Ill bet everyone’s glad its up to a couple modified distro platoons to keep it all running!
Disclaimer on all this is that im an armchair general and my opinion is not to be taken seriously
See this is where you point and laugh because I didn’t even know level 4 body armor was a thing let alone that it made clownshoes out of the 5.56

Hey so with the M7 and M250 a rifle squad carries 890 less rounds into a fight compared to the M4 and M249
I wonder if the 250 has the same firing rates as the 249, the lowest fire speed on the 249 is 85 rounds a minute in 3 round bursts which would empty a 200 rounds mag in a little over 2 minutes. With that same rate the 250 is running out in a little over 1 minute. And since the regular riflemen are also dealing with smaller mags and less ammo they wont be able to spare as much ammo for the automatic rifleman

My girlfriend isnt at work with me today so no one is reminding me to eat now that Ive made my lunch
Regular covvie infantry platoon is like 3 squads of 12 grunts left by an elite minor, a total of 10 jackals (mix of sharpshooters and shielded ones) then two ghosts, all commanded by an elite major
I made this up
I cant stand Halo mythic
Im currently writing up a mission briefing

Halo has some weirdness baked into it from trying to use the us marine corp as a template for a huge space army
Like alright a frigate can drop an infantry company down on a planet, great super, what kinda sustainment do they have though? And why do they only rock a platoon and a half of tanks? Do we just consider the marine forces to be combined arms?
Is there a headquarters company?
