Something I want to talk to the girls in my troop about is really taking a hard look at how you spend your time and energy and to see if the things you do are serving you or benefitting you in any way, are you enjoying it? Obviously school is challenging but you have no choice, homework, extra curricular stuff you don't exactly have control over. But the things you have control over, the things you do in your free time. Like when you stare at thin beautiful women with a full face of makeup for a few minutes on Instagram or whatever, how does that make you feel about yourself? When you scroll through Twitter and read peoples jokes or watch their videos or read about their hot takes on society, does it make you feel fulfilled or just distracted? Is it normalizing targeting a group of other people and making them the butt of a joke? How does it make you look at and think of and treat others? Is it filling your mind with worry about the state of things of the world that really you can't change?
I feel like young girls especially but everyone in general is told how they should look, think, spend their time but I want them to question these things and ask themselves, is this how I actually want to look/think/act or is this how I want everyone around me to see me? Does it benefit me to do these things? Does it make me feel happy, fulfilled, does it help me grow as a person?
People love to tell other people how the world is and how they should live their lives but truly we really are on a rock in space.... Like everything we've created we've made it up .. what makes one human have authority to tell other humans what to do and think and feel?
Ask for what you want and question what you don't. Take control of your life in any way you can and it will make you feel more powerful and free. Don't let other people tell you what to care about
