that last scene between beth and borgov, the big showdown...first of all, amazing directing, great acting. secondly, just. the way he smiles at her and hands her the piece despite the fact that as the audience were told specifically russian players never concede defeat like that, a fun chekov's gun.
the way he takes her hand and lifts her towards the spotlight, almost like someone leading in a dance. the way the rest of the world is a dark clapping blur.
and my god that hug. how he starts it and she leans into it. it's such a grounding moment for beth, it's really sinking in that she's won, she's the best in the world, she did it. it's this shining moment outside of any expectation or worry for the future, and it could be a cold shock, but instead it's this warm few seconds of shared humanity.
and borgov! how he fades back from the light with grace and second hand joy at her victory - he's been there, he's been her, he's grateful not to have to fight to keep the title, not angry or posturing but deference and excellent gamesmanship. best rivalry on screen, 11/10 would recommend.
