this season was about much more than norandro, but I just want to talk about them for a bit. the theme of “vertigo” as nora described in the trailer — risks, passion, drama, heat, obsession — that’s what’s present in so many teen shows and movies and it rarely fits realistically in healthy relationships, especially when you’re that young and new to dating. all the noorhelms, though, have plenty of that: think of how much the nooras cry and shout and question their values just because of the williams. it’s pure emotion, right? but it’s also painful and uncomfortable to watch; it’s part of why the original noorhelm, especially, was such a bad pairing. it’s what led to such an insular, toxic, terrible relationship between nora and miquel. we saw nora fight with everyone, cry, question everything, fall apart. think of that contrasted with viri’s storyline and behavior post-hugo.

watching that final scene with nora and alejandro, I didn’t see it as an ending — or as a beginning, either. it just reminded me that they are both so young. nora will have so many boys ahead of her, but she has so much more than that, too. this season was about trust. and just looking at the norandro storyline, this season ended with nora realizing there’s still love, trust, and respect between her and alejandro; that’s all I could think when she rested her head on his shoulder. she wasn’t going to do anything about it — he’s about to leave, and it’s not the right time for her, either. but it was so blatantly there.

after a season of ups and downs and pressure and fights and tears and “passion,” nora got a quiet, tender moment and instant forgiveness (compare that to how much she had to constantly plead for miquel’s forgiveness) and understanding from the person she probably wanted to be with all along. and she realized, when they were talking, that she has a whole life ahead. maybe alejandro will be a part of it — or maybe not! but there’s still that love, that acknowledgement at the end that they care for each other and that what’s meant to happen, will.
