PPP: Website
All students were given a wordpress website to create for this module.
My domain is sofiapetrou.clickgarden.net
When first opening the domain, the page was blank, ready to work on.
To start, I would have to make a maintenance page, in case anyone was to view my website while I was still creating it.

PPP: Intro
For the second half of the Professional Practice and Promotion module we are asked to develop a portfolio and undertake a period of work experience. Through the development of an online portfolio we will start to bring together different projects including individual practice based work, a record of our group work and a record of our work experience.
Guest Lecture: Victoria Browne (14/02/17)
Victoria Browne’s artistic practice draws on formalism in painting and methods of post-production to explore post-digital print processes. The culture of use has previously relied on print’s imitating properties to reproduce, repeat and multiply the original as copy material. Today in an era of post-production, Browne's artistic research attempts to re-interpret this definition; to master the qualities innate in print as a medium of creative expression and of recontexualisation. She is Associate Professor of Print and Drawing at the Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo and a current receipient of KUF's artistic research funding:

Overall I thought the guest lecture was slightly boring as I dont have much interest in photobooks, however the New Horizons series was my favourite part of the lecture as the images were beautiful and specific photography I enjoy the most; landscapes.
FEA: Presentation
My script:
“When thinking of an idea for my work, and observing my peers, it seemed everyones work focused on positive editorial issues.
So to better suit my work style, I decided to base my work on something a bit more challenging.
My images represent the theme of ‘Ant-Fashion’ in which they defy today’s conventions of fashion photography.
My target demographic for this work would be young adults, more specifically those who dress or act against the norm.
I feel my work would benefit from being published through an online medium, as my target audience uses this more often than magazines or galleries.
I was inspired by the works created by a modelling company named antiagencyldn, who specifically specialise in hipster fashion, hiring models that don’t particularly fit the typical standards of high-fashion modelling. For example, they sport tattoos and multicoloured hair.
My ideas for the subject of the image was to have something in the frame that would distract the viewer from the fashion itself. For example, i used my surroundings as props; ‘tree branch’ and actual props; ‘acetate paper’.
Using this technique I was able to successfully create the distraction I wanted to completely turn fashion imagery on its head.
To strengthen the anti fashion theme, I decided to shoot in a dark and gloomy forest, as apposed to a typical studio set up, and heavily edited my imagery to that theme. I used dark tones and blue colours to give an eerie feel to the entire collection.
To conclude on the subject of where I think my work is going, I think there is a much bigger market out there for fashion photographers that like to think outside the box of ‘high fashion’ or go against the grain of traditional fashion photography and I feel my work fits nicely within that category, and could extend my technique into businesses like antiagencyldn, who could use the distraction in the image for their future campaigns.”

FEA: Finals
For the model, I asked him to keep his glasses on as this promotes the anti-fashion theme I was going for. I also told him to try not to pose as much as possible so the images didn’t look like typical stiff fashion images.
When it came to using the acetate paper, it wasn’t as easy as I had originally thought. Seeing as the scratches on the paper were white, against the white clouds in the sky, it was really difficult to see them in front of the lens, so towards the end I started to use the bright clouds to my advantage. I decided to use the paper as a reflector in front of the lens to create the milky film and faint lines in the last couple of images.
As I decided to shoot in a dark and murky forest, I tried to use my surroundings to help with the little annoyances within the pictures. For example I positioned myself at an angle where a little branch was covering my models’ face, or the focus shift on a fallen tree trunk.
For editing, I went with a dark and cool tone which I changed in camera raw, along with quite high saturation to make the colours in the trees pop. I think the darkness and coolness of my images contradict the usual fashion shoot, in which the colours are normally quite bright and light.
Overall I was really happy with these images as they portrayed my ideas perfectly.

FEA: My Idea
When thinking of things that would get in the way of a lens or distract the viewers from what is ‘supposed’ to be the main focus of a fashion image; the model, I thought back to when I did analogue photography. The idea of subtle scratches on the negatives and exposure blotches would always drive me crazy when viewing the images after development. So why not recreate these things for digital images?
I decided to buy some clear acetate paper and proceeded to scratch and mark the surface to use in front of the lens when shooting. These are the resulting acetate papers:
For this one, I decided to meticulously scratch famous quotes said by big fashion names, which I got from this website
http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/fashion/the-40-best-style-quotes-of-all-time-122453
For this piece I scratched all over the paper in circular patterns, but only slightly so they wouldn’t be so obvious in front of the lens
For this page I decided to use water colour paint to mimic the colours of the sky and trees, which is where I will more than likely have my photoshoot take place
For this one I used a rulers and sharpie to create a subtle grid that would show in front of the lens
For this one I used a sharpie to draw question marks
More paint patterns
and finally I cut out an image of a person from another photograph that would sit in the corner of the image I take, hopefully noticed. I also added some glue streaks which would cloud the image in one section.
Next step for this shoot is to go out and attempt to create a fashion shoot that will always have something in the way of the main subject, or a little annoyance that would trigger the audience.

FEA: Anti-Fashion
WHEN TYPING ANTI-FASHION INTO GOOGLE SEARCH
most images are dark, quite gothic or really over the top clothing. Overall the images give off the same feeling of confusion, which is what I want my work to portray.
FEA: Calvin Klein
A clean and pristine campaign by Calvin Klein
When looking at normal fashion campaigns, they all seem to look the same. They have a very influential model or famous person (CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENT) as the main focus and all look very clean and visually pleasing.
