17 July 1944. Operation Mascot. Royal Navy carriers HMS Formidable, HMS Furious, and HMS Indefatigable launched 44 Fairey Barracudas escorted by 48 Corsairs against the German battleship Tirpitz in Norway. An effective smoke screen allows them only one near-miss.
