Earlier this month, we published a post focusing on an often overlooked essential of the discerning man's wardrobe - braces, more commonly referred to as, suspenders. 

In this month's Eye on Celebrity Style post - we wanted to highlight a gent who understands the polish braces can add to an outfit. One such celeb who can be counted among the braces faithful is the new Sherlock Holmes himself, Benedict Cumberbatch.

From casual looks to dressed up and dandy - this quintessentially English Gentelman can seldom be caught WITHOUT braces, and thats ok with us!

Green is often overlooked color in menswear. Recently we had a special request for green which led us down a wonderful path of uncovering a truly engaging and wearable color. Most men associate green with money (for good reason) However, "money green" doesn't translate so well into a garment.

We recommend something with a bit of charterer and body like a forest green or British Racing green. The darker the shade the more people who see you will have to stare at you and wonder how you look so good...which is never a bad thing. Try something in a worsted Gabardine for a suit or a Wool/Silk blend in a jacket for spring. In Fall/Winter go for a hearty flannel or Donegal Tweed. Consider Green. Dress well friends.

Suspenders. Or better yet braces. You may think they're only for 5 year old boys attending their first communion or Easter Sunday church service, but you'd be wrong.  

Men who have eyt to experience braces have yet to experience a day without the need to pull up their pants every 5 minutes. Belts don't work and there is no point in fighting gravity. You'll lose every time.

Instead, may we suggest employing braces into your repertoire. Belts try to hold your pants up while braces allow your pants to "suspend" from the shoulder down. Belts break up the visual body line horizontally while braces create a clean, smooth line of sight for the eye to travel up and down the body without interruption. No need for pesky belt loops. Only suspender buttons are needed inside the waistband which are infinitely more comfortable and practical.

If you're going to wear braces you might as well have fun with them. Of course the standard solids are essential and necessary for any well-dressed man. But once those are acquired, moving on to motifs, and alternative fabrics is another level indeed. Dress well friends.

Sofio's founder and Master Tailor, Sofio Barone, took center stage last week at The West End Cinema as a special invited guest participating in a panel discussion following an exclusive screening of 'Men of the Cloth', a documentary film by Vicki Vasilopoulos. 

From the Men of the Cloth website, 

"MEN OF THE CLOTH is the story of three humble and accomplished master tailors who create masterpieces of elegance and style to clothe the human body. Working with the skill of engineers and the soul of philosophers, Italian artisans Nino Corvato, Checchino Fonticoli and Joe Centofanti celebrate the individual in both mind and body.

By weaving together the individual stories of these master tailors, MEN OF THE CLOTH unfolds the whole tapestry of their lives, unravels the mystery of their artistry and reveals how their passionate devotion to their craft is akin to a religion."

Mr Barone took the stage to a sold out crowd to answer a wide range of questions from his personal experiences as a Master Tailor and Designer - and the legacy this craft will leave behind in the world. The Panel was moderated by another member of the Sofio's team, Stylist Grant Harris.

Flannel. You may remember it from your early childhood when you were 6 and you spent most of the colder months running around the house in your flannel pajamas. While that may be a fond memory, we hope you've outgrown your flap bottom onsie. We have.

Woolen flannel is soft, warm, long lasting and it outshines its worsted brethren in Winter (It actually has no shine at all given its physical nature). Its raised knap and felted surface allow it to trap heat next to the body and repel cold and wind. While it can be had in different weights, we prefer a hearty flannel in 11 or 12 ounces to enjoy the full benefits of the cloth. 

Solids are the norm, but a heathered chalk stripe, muted puppytooth check, or a bold windowpane are worthy options for the man who still wants to show his sartorial splendor when the temperature drops below 40 degrees.
