Turns out there's a childhood disease to the tune of measles that erodes the carapace, and the first symptom shows up about a week before any actual damage is caused.

Eridian scientists realise pretty quick that Grace can detect the illness long before any of their equipment can, and when caught that early it is much, much easier and safer to treat.

Small Eridian equivalent of a sigh. “No. Not needed for life. In fact Grace will die if he falls in water and does not get out.”

“Tell him we give him water in containers that won't kill him. Lots lots lots of water on Erid for Grace to drink.”

“No. Grace say he want water on ground. Also want it with excess sodium chloride compound so it will be unhealthy for drink.”

“Grace want this liquid for celebration.”

“Of course.” They scan it. “You have wrong liquid. This contain compounds which are poisonous for humans.”

“Yes yes yes. Grace say humans like feeling of being slightly poisoned.”

Grace: "I don't know!! Trust me I think it's dumb too!"

Rocky: "Dumb, dumb, dumb, human language inefficient statement."

Grace pinches his nose, this was going to be a long lesson...

A few days later.

Grace: "So back on earth- there are some people who were born without the ability to see."

Rocky: "ohhh like Rocky, no eyes, see with sound, excitement!"

Grace: "Not exactly... They still have their eyes, but they don't work. And they can't see with sound like you Rock. So humans developed ways for them to still function even without the ability."

Grace procured a chart he made last night. Rocky pointed his Crystal-gun-thing at the screen to get a better look.

Grace: "See this..." He pointed to the letters on screen "This is the basic human alphabet." Then he pointed to another section made of dots. "And these are what we humans call braille. It's a different language humans made to help other humans that aren't able to see, and give them the ability to read."

Rocky: "Fascinating... Rocky want to learn statement!"

Grace: "Yeah I thought that this version of our alphabet would be more useful than what I was teaching you earlier. And maybe this way it will help you type on the keyboard easier."

Rocky trilled in excitement.
