THE Spice Girls are to reform for the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games.

In a spectacular finale to London 2012, Geri Halliwell will show off her famous Union Jack dress once more – after Victoria Beckham let slip yesterday that she was backing the one-off reunion.

The band, who last performed together in 2008, are in the “final stages” of negotiations to make the nostalgic curtain-closer a reality.

Victoria, Geri, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm are tipped to perform two songs, including their debut hit Wannabe.

They will join an all-star bill that already includes George Michael, The Who, Emeli Sande, Take That and Jessie J for the climax to the Games on August 12.

The creative team behind the closing ceremony and sources close to the band yesterday said the Spice Girls were “95 per cent” confirmed to appear.

It was previously suggested that Victoria – or Posh Spice – was opposed to a reunion.

But during a radio interview yesterday, she said: “I would love nothing more. It would be great.

“I don’t know about a comeback tour but I loved being back with the girls.

“If they’re up for something, then I certainly am.”

It is thought her husband David’s exclusion from Team GB made the gig more likely.

A source said: “The Spice Girls were first approached for the Games over two years ago.

“However, Victoria’s hectic work schedule, and the fact both she and Mel B live in the States, has always been problematic.

“But she is in London now until the end of the Olympics and David’s exclusion from the football team means she has time to reunite with the Spice Girls.

“She agrees the girls would provide the most fitting and patriotic finale to the closing ceremony.

Last night it was believed the only potential stumbling block to an Olympic reunion was Melanie C, who recently split with long-term boyfriend Thomas Starr.

Losing your voice is something us civilians don’t have to really worry about, a couple of Hall’s Soothers and we’re right as rain – but for superstar Florence Welch (and her Machine), things are a little different.

After a vocal injury last week, the 25-year-old singer has spoken up about how frightened she was.

Madonna has previously had a bit of a dig at Lady Gaga saying that Born This Way is more than a little inspired by Express Yourself. Some rehearsal footage leaked earlier in the week but now Madge has performed the song live at the first date of her MDNA tour in Israel.

The video quality is pretty awful, but it’s worth watching anyway to see the mash-up. If you can’t watch it at work, Madonna is dressed as a marching band leader. She sings a few verses of Express Yourself, has a little dance and then starts singing Lady Gaga’s Born This Way. She switches back between the two songs and then repeats the line ‘She’s not me’. Zing!

Big Brother host Brian Dowling has no qualms with spilling the beans on what he hopes will make this next series of the hit reality show its best yet!

 Despite being told by producers to 'tone down the tan' in a bid to make the show appear more Made In Chelsea and less Towie (yeah, good luck with that one), the presenter's confidence isn't knocked and he's is still eager to reveal his hopes for the new series. The two elements Brian hopes to see this time around include a gay romance and lots of ugly people. That's right, in a recent interview Brian says,

 "I know the housemates this year will be  varied in age...I heard something about maybe couples going in...I don't know how that works. Maybe they go in and they have to  pretend they aren't couples, like get off with other people,..."We've never had a gay romance, have we? I'm not quite sure if the nation are ready for that yet. I think that would be quite nice, a gay romance."

 Brian obviously doesn't remember the blossoming bromance between former BB besties Anthony and Craig, although that was only ever a one-sided bromance. Brian continued, 

I love that Chantelle left Alex Reid because she found him dressed as Roxanne and using sex toys. Now even a wanna be dumb blonde Barbie'esque non entity may think that there is something not quite right in choosing a boyfriend and father to her child that prefers sheer stockings and Constance Carol red lipstick over Abercrombie & Fitch T-Shirts and desert boots. Maybe she is not pissed off with the trainee aspect of it but more then fight over g-strings and fishnets of a morning. Any whoo I get a feeling that wile one fucked up kid. The two of them recreating a mixture of them both is just wrong.

Our favourite walking sperm bank has jetted off to Las Vegas with her latest soon to be wedding victim Leandro Penna and was spotted in a Vegas pet store puppy shopping whilst filming for her latest reality T.V. show.

Nice to see that animals are just another commodity to the false 'reality' slut.

And Las Vegas?  Could this be yet another circus of a marriage?  God she will soon clock up more performances that Cirque Du Soleil!

ANNIE Lennox had double prize winner Adele in tears with a passionate speech as she presented her with a gong at the Ivor Novello awards.

Annie told the singer: “It’s very rare, once in a blue moon, that unmistakable talent flashes by.

“Years ago, we were performing on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny show and, when I saw you perform, it was like lightning had struck.

“You don’t need talent shows and competitions. This is what artists do and I am so proud of you, baby.

“Last year, I was driving into Manhattan and there was a car packed full of teenage girls all singing, at the top of their lungs, Someone Like You.

“That’s when you know a song has gone round the entire globe many times around. You did it, Adele.”

Adele was named songwriter of the year and her song Rolling in the Deep was the most performed work of 2011.

DISCO star Donna Summer has died aged 63, her publicist said.

A statement issued on behalf of her family hailed the singer, best known for hits including I Feel Love and Love's Unkind, as "a woman of many gifts". It is believed she had been battling cancer.

The full statement read: "Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith.

"While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."

Donna had 29 UK top 40 singles during her career.

She gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s and released a number of albums that have reached gold or platinum status, including the multiplatinum Bad Girls and On the Radio, Volume I & II.

Her other hits included Hot Stuff and MacArthur Park.

Donna's sound was a mix of genres and helped her earn Grammy Awards in the dance, rock, R&B and inspirational categories.

She released her last album Crayons in 2008. She also performed on American Idol that year with its top female contestants.

 She was born Donna Gaines in Boston and learned to sing in church before fronting a series of bands and appearing in musicals.

Working as a session singer brought her into contact with producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte and together they established her as one of the biggest acts of the 1970s.

The extended 16-minute version of Love To Love You Baby was a huge hit in the clubs but was banned from several radio stations because of her suggestive vocal style.

British record producer Pete Waterman, who worked with Donna in the 1980s, said his abiding memory was of "a lovely person".

He said: "Whenever you were with her she made you feel so special. She had all the talent but she gave you all the credit. She was not a diva in any shape or form."

The singer teamed up with Stock Aitken Waterman in the late 1980s when her reputation had taken a battering and she had alienated many fans with alleged anti-gay remarks.

Waterman said: "She was in the wilderness when we had the biggest record of our careers together.

"They warned us against working with her because of the whole anti-gay thing that had happened.

"But what a voice she had. She used to warm up in the ladies toilet and everyone in our building would stop and it would come to a standstill to hear her warm up."

Summer gained her stage name after she married Austrian actor Helmut Sommer, although she later remarried.
