You know what absolutely kills me every time? Whenever it gets down to the wire and one of the THB has a moment of genuine connection. And youād think it would be Magnus, but itās usually Taako.
Iām thinking of two moments: near the end of Petals to the Metal, and near the end of The Eleventh Hour. In Petals to the Metal, Taako gets down on his knees to hug Hurley, and she uses that to move her safety harness to him. In The Eleventh Hour, Taako tells Roswell that he kept Refuge safe. In both cases, an NPC asks Taako for something specific, and Justin gives it to them while still staying completely in character.
Itās the same kind of moment that we see when Taako talks to Lup. Itās the same as when he tells Angus about Glamour Springs. Itās the same as when he tells Kravitz that heās worried that no one else will have him.
We get these glimpses of Taakoās authentic, vulnerable self. So much of the time, heās funny and arrogant and vain and dismissive - but when it comes down to it, heās the one who has a place to be exposed to genuine connection. Heās the one who makes those bonds. Not Magnus, who loves so deeply and so widely; not Merle, the peacemaker, who managed to go to John over and over again in the face of fire and had the nerve to ask if they were friends. Taako.
Thereās a reason he was chosen to be on a ship powered by bonds. Heās pretty damn good at making them.

[Images ID: #youāre so right OP #and like, heās supposed to be the one who ādoesnāt make them easilyā because the only person he could rely on for most of his life was Lup #and during most of the campaign, he didnāt even remember her, so he fully believed that he had no one to rely on but himself #but even though heās been burned so many times and is really distrustful, he still takes opportunities to make genuine connections and #people WANT to make genuine connections with him and trust that they can do that and that he will give them what they need that will help #him in return, re: Hurley and Roswell #and all even though he puts up an air of not caring, not needing, and not seeking any of it #I donāt remember how I was going to connect that with this next point, so Iām just gonna, next point: #the bonds that Taako does create, when he isnāt burned and they actually get established, are genuine and strong because letting people in #and deciding that he can keep them close is a big deal for him and he doesnāt choose to actually keep people around lightly #so the bonds that he makes are really strong #āhe would watch the world burn if it meant the people he was close to were safeā #and honestly, one of the things that struck me the most about the epilogue is that, Magnus has his moment with Carey, and Merle has his #moments with his kids and Killian, but Taako is the one whoās formed so many bonds over the course of the campaign, that he has #*four different people* interact with him and are shown to be close to him #hereās this elf who grew up with allegedly, no real bonds to speak of except with his sister, then found a family, then he lost #everything, then heās the one who not only found everyone again, but found even more people who love him and who he loves in return #he just makes me so emotional <3 #idk if any of this made sense because my brain is getting tired End ID]
