hmm think i will probs catch up on the ongoing manga ive fallen behind on (green yuri, love bullet and arisaku come to mind), and Then i wanna pick up another completed series (probs another yuri) to fill the void left behind by hdwr lol
finished hdwr and...idk i think part of me, while happy miwa and saeko got their happy end, feels like it was almost Too neat and tidy (maybe this is just my problem with timeskips tbhāthere's something lovely about being left to imagine the future of the characters, to have it suspended and uncertain). i also just (maybe selfishly) wished that we got to see more of yuria and esp tamaki, but i realise they were never as central to the narrative as saeko and miwa's relationship...all that aside though, hdwr really is the lesbian bible, to me
whenever I next hear people complaining about how they only engage with media dominated by men because "women are poorly written" and wawawa etc etc etc ill now think about this bit of interview from the author of How Do We Relationship (Tamifull) forever. god no wonder the manga is so peak. everyone shut up about men and become a producer for wierd girls NOW

see now if kemutai hanashi ever went triple platinum mainstream i would love that but also i actually would not šØ the idea of ppl trying to pigeonhole arita and takeda's relationship into something like romance and going "there's no platonic explanation to this [therefore gay]"........i will end up on the news. what if they [the hypothetical fandom] miss the entire thesis of the manga. what then.....
chp.43 made me feel unwell (positive). the intimate act that is noticing!!!! the attention that takeda pays to arita being so detailed, so devoted in clocking something as small as a half-closed up piercing. the way he treads around such a mundane topic. caring so much is a kind of tender terrifying thing; obviously he has all these worries about why arita doesn't wear earrings and if he's overstepping, but the crux of it (to me) is the saying it out loud. hey i noticed this about you, ive been keeping note of this tiny thing that's part of you, and i want you to tell me about it, if you want. that is so exposing that's. im unwell. and of course in the end there's no Particular reason that arita doesn't wear earrings, kemuhana has never been about melodramatic backstories. but yeah the askingāthere's the curiosity and beside it the fear of rejection, that the attention takeda pays is unwanted.
but arita doesn't reject it. he says "if you want me to wear them, i will."

Aaah I'm so glad you liked it so much!! Kemutai Hanashi means allot to me since it made me confront my own aromantism in a way that didn't feel exclusionary or isolating, I'm feeling so joyous that you share these sentiments of mine
I wish I had more recs for works which were completely affront with the lack of need for labels as kemutai hanashi is but I don't read enough queer mangas. 'my oh my atami-kun' is a good read if you like the inquisitive vibe of kemutai hanashi and how they casually question apparently mundane social norms. 'smoke no ame nochi hare' and 'goodbye heron' cover the forced ambiguity and emotional repression with which queer people interact with one another in conservative asian spaces.
I also think anyone who's read kemutai hanashi should have the honour of gazing upon this official art, so here you go
isn't it interesting how when Arita is talking to his family, it's framed such that flowers are often associated with his brother's marriage
whereas when the topic turns to Arita and Takeda's relationship, this potted plant is often shown
idk something about the gorgeous flowers in full bloom vs the simple evergreen plant
the carefully arranged flowers vs the overgrown plant spilling out of its pot
neither is necessarily better but one is the stereotypical image of "a beautiful plant" while the other seems like nothing special in comparison - just a normal houseplant that needs a trim
and yet Arita's eyes always seem to get caught on it
(Look at it, how it's grown, is it really any less beautiful?)
i think it's some neat imagery for the contrast between a "normal" relationship and the one that Takeda and Arita have
