Wait so I'm not a big connoisseur of movies as such so I can't analyse too well, but basically my interpretation is that Clint Eastwood's character had that queer vibe going on. There were moments with the doctor, his cop partner which felt like it had a lot of tension. He obviously had no wife (wife dead, brooding man trope of course)
The scene where he looks at the women about to engage in a threesome is set up as aggressively straight but for me it just circles back to being somewhat gay with a LOT of compensation.

Anyway, to me, he's a widower, yeah, but he doesn't seem all that brooding to me. The only time he brings it up in the first movie at least was when he was talking to Chico's wife after they visited him in the hospital. He doesn't make it about him. Even when the doctor friend mentioned her, he went silent. Maybe he felt there was no need to bring it up since he probs got over it already.
And the moments with his doctor friend and Chico? I thought that was more that he expects them to be competent. His friend was being attentive cuz yknow he's both a doctor and Harry's friend. Chico? I think Harry expects all the partners he had to have his back. And of course, he would do the same for them.
Well, the gay subtext is the main event here, right? So what I think is kinda ambiguously gay about the movie is the cross scene. When he was delivering the ransom money for Scorpio, yknow. So he gets there, Scorpio asked him to go to the cross... with his sniper rifle on Harry's back. I always thought that long sniper rifle was pretty phallic. And its so silent at night, with just the two of em. This ominous vibe.. Feels nervous.
So they got to the cross. Scorpio asked him to put his nose against the cement or whatever. Then, the torture happens. He hit him on the back of his head, Harry falls. Kickings, steppings and when Harry was about to faint, Scorpio said "Don't pass out on me." Man, I never heard something so queer. I remember reading this Yaoi manga called Caste Heaven, in a scene where the two leads are having sex. And I remember the top saying don't pass out on me when the bottom was about to mid sex.
So Scorpio was essentially saying something you say in bed. It help solidify the queer perspective I have of this movie when Scorpio was tugging his hair and Harry was gripping Scorpio's pants as he got assaulted. Kinda seems like he was giving him a bj, yknow?
Ah I dunno. Sorry, I just love this movie so much. Oh my... this is a pretty long one.
Omg this is so cool! I never thought about the symbolism of the rifle! And you're absolutely on the money about the wife part. She is barely mentioned and he doesn't seem too broken up about her either. Lovely to read! It is a great movie!
