pt/ neoumbrella and terms /end pt
For a while, we have sat here thinking "Why don't terms that aren't umbrella terms have referential language?". It is something that has been on my mind that has me wondering why such a thing is not done as much in coining terms. In this post, we want to share our thoughts on the matter.
When a neoumbrella is coined, there is of course terms that fall underneath it. Demigenders, Transgender terms, etc. And we cannot forget how the umbrellas are their own thing with their own themes. But suddenly when it comes to terms that are not umbrellas,
There is nothing. No referential language, no general terms. Just specs of dust that make it seem so forgotten and coined for the sake of it.
So why can't those terms be treated the same as umbrella terms?
I mean, really. We ask this in genuine curiosity of why these terms tend to get neglected like they aren't as important as umbrella terms. General terms are just as important, just as integral and I so wish they were treated to the same level as umbrellas are.
Of course, identity is subjective, there are terms that will be felt differently for so many reasons, but here, that isn't what I am referring to. We are speaking in general. That in general, the terms that aren't umbrellas, never get referential language coined. They never get anything for them. It just feels more like a one and done thing now due to this ongoing thing with neoumbrellas. And let's not get into why umbrellas are hardly coined being xenic. That is a topic for another day.
Now, I am aware a lot of the terms we coin have been treated like this. But we want to do better with this, we are planning to coin referential language for them because they are just as important.
We would love to see the same level to these terms from the mogai community. And we do hope that this post has someone pondering and thinking on this discussion a little more.
