This…
…is how a pair of shorts should be.
Not that long ago, it was how they were. Even footballers bared their hairy thighs on the pitch, and it was the main reason so many people watched football who weren’t even interested in who won: they just watched it to look at the footballers’ legs. And it was a thing everyone knew about and joked about.
Then came the 1990s and the hideous fashion of knee-length shorts (I’ve read many times that it was influenced by political Islam; it was a theory — who knows?)
Fortunately, it looks like the idea of men baring their thighs is returning, in Europe at least, but it’s a bitterly-led battle. Most men seem to have arrived at mid-thigh, while others are once again embracing the Beckenbauer-style shorts that were typical in the 80s.
The South Africans definitely get it! From the school uniforms worn by their young men, keen to show off the thighs that come from being on the school rugby team, to the ranchers who are proud of the thick, suntanned thighs that are the result of daily work outdoors. See Boerboel Wear on the internet; you can’t help going back again and again, just to look at the pictures. Just to look at those men’s thighs.
