Congestive heart failure, blindness, diabetes, mobility issues (walks with a cane on a good day, typically uses a wheelchair or other assistive device), chronic anxiety, and medication that inhibits heat response, are all some of the medical things my in-laws, Brian and Tina, deal with.
TLDR: this is a gofundme to help my very disabled in-laws get safe housing, as they are currently suffering in a 100F heat wave with no AC. gofundme linked!
These difficulties are a struggle on any typical day, so you can only assume how awful it's been to have these issues with a broken HVAC during a heat wave that has been plaguing them with an average heat index of 100F or more for over a week now.
They were told their HVAC is not just broken, but an outdated system, in which acquiring the parts is only a couple hundred cheaper than replacing the entire system.
So, their stress skyrockets when they're quoted a price of about $5,700 when they were already trying and struggling to save up money to relocate.
For over a year, we have been trying to save enough funds to get Brian and Tina moved to Nebraska, close to my wife and I, so we can help them manage their health. Issue, after issue, after issue — such as this situation with the HVAC — keeps coming up and preventing them from moving.
This fundraiser is to help my aged and disabled parents find relief and comfort after all this time. Relief from the heat, and/or relief that if any health emegencies were to arise, they'd be near family, especially seeing as Tina is also losing vision and should no longer be driving anywhere. My brother-in-law is currently their unofficial live-in caretaker, but has his own health problems and difficulties with driving, and cannot carry the weight of being a caretaker on his own anymore.
Any and all contributions will be either put toward GOAL A or GOAL B, depending on how quickly we can find them a place to move into, if at all.
GOAL A: any and all funds will be put toward their move, such as helpers, a uHAUL, gas, a deposit on a new place, etc.
GOAL B: any and all funds will be put toward the HVAC system.
DISCLAIMER: My father-in-law made me read this to him to make sure it was what he wanted to post. What he doesn't know is that I'm going to add in a bit of information of my own... Tina and Brian are some of the nicest people I have ever met. When I met their daughter, they welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I belonged there. I found in Brian a father I never had. And despite being far from made of money, they've never hesitated to help us when we need it most, in any way that they could. They have a hair metal, dad rock, nerdy as all hell, friends with anyone type of aesthetic, and they represent it so well. If anyone deserves a little helping hand... it's them.
