I don’t actually remember. I think I was writing up all that as I was thinking up the sequel and I probably meant it to refer to Soan, Soan’s father or grandfather.

Unfortunately, most of the tilesets were edits from RPG Maker resources and/or from Celianna’s parallax stuff from rpgmakerweb and she explicitly says you can only use it in RPG Maker.

The battlers are the same as many of the ones I used were from a site that used the VX battlers and made different ones (and the ones I made myself were also edits). Animations were probably from RPG Maker but there are quite a few I think were made with some other program that theoretically I think you could use in other programs (but not commercially since the program used is expensive so unless you have said program I don’t think you can, I could be wrong).

Sometimes I think back and wonder if making Star Stealing Prince was worth it in the end. I had a lot of issues making it (I was really sick and couldn’t afford grad school so I was pretty down) and writing the sequel and I got really burned out. Then I have people telling me it helped them through a difficult time, it helped them make good friends, that it really touched them in some way.

That always makes it worth it. I have always had issues wondering if the things I do are worth the time I put into them especially since I am slow and I get distracted a lot and things don’t always finish. Sometimes when I can’t sleep I just wonder if I should keep trying and that if it is worth it.

Star Stealing Prince reminds me that it is. Always.

So thank you so much for playing Star Stealing Prince and reading its sequel. For telling me that you’ve played it and adored it, that it’s touched you in some way, that you just enjoyed it and made friends through it.

I went back to Star Stealing Prince again because I love this game, and I felt like illustrating the first “boss fight” °v°

All right you lost me at WC Temple’s MP!

Both Relenia and Hiante aren’t very strong in magic. Snowe is very definitely and Astra is as well but she relies more on her strength and speed. I figure being dead for a while kinda hampered Hiante’s magic and Relenia mainly relies on her strength rather than her magic so their MPs were adjusted accordingly. I probably botched it up somewhere because what is balancing? I would like to hear your theory about Astra, however! I didn’t put much thought into MP pools or stats when I was doing it but on some unconscious level I did skew them in the way that fits my own theory.

Yeah, I didn’t really elaborate on Edgar and Lina’s relationship with Astra while the plan was set :P I did imagine it how you described it. 

As to why they didn’t bring her up to the floating island, I guess they probably thought to bring her with them at first. But as their plan went on, they started to become more and more desperate, and a bit insane too. Lina and Edgar used to meet Astra often and spend time with her. But the more time went on and their condition started deteriorating, they started loosing focus on anything except their goal and started developing tunnel vision. Astra soon became a thought at the back of their mind. It was clear in the game that once they arrived at the floating island, they were pushing away the guilt for leaving Snowe behind. For Astra they probably told themselves that they came to the floating island to get away from responsibility and that bringing Astra would counteract that. They probably also comforted themselves knowing that her life is long (because of Erio) and happy and delusioned themselves with the idea that everyone on Sabine is going to live happily ever after. So to them they aren’t really wronging her. In fact, maybe the notes left throughout the castle might have been interpreted as written to her. I forgot what they all said so I can’t confirm if they could have been read that way :P

As for White Cloud, I imagined that Lina is slightly stronger than the people at White Cloud, if not, then at the same level. I never developed a theory as to why, though. But Lina’s strong magic + Edgar’s average magic would have created Astra’s pretty strong magic. 

Why Snowe’s magic is so strong is explained in the story itself. Because Soan is busting with magic capability. Soria immediately could tell that Edgar wasn’t Snowe’s father, but Soan was. So their difference in magic capacity must be huge.

I never thought about Sephi though. I guess your explanation to that is right. Or maybe because Lina was never part of the temple itself but her magic is strong through other means. Because the woman who carried Astra through pregnancy did not have any DNA connection to Astra. Astra was purely Lina and Edgar’s, and just implanted in that woman.

This relies on the idea that Astra is magically stronger than the average citizen. About as strong as the people at White Cloud Temple who have been ‘bred’ to be strong in magic.

Richard doesn’t seem to know who Astra’s parents are. He never mentioned them. If he does, he isn’t telling. But it was said in SSP that Edgar and Lina have taken a liking to Astra, so they chose her to be the Star Princess. Did Lina and Edgar know Astra’s parents? Richard seems to have no clue so that probably isn’t the case.

Considering the age gap between Snowe and Astra is 3 years, Astra would have been at most 2 when they arrived at the snowy island. So her personality must not have made Edgar and Lina like her. It could have been maternal instinct of course. Astra was the youngest on the boat. Lina and Edgar tried to have a child many times but failed to. Seeing Astra might have stirred some maternal instincts in Lina, which made her take more care of Astra. But the game and short stories made it very clear Lina liked Astra more than Snowe.

What I think is that Astra is actually Lina and Edgar’s real child. Snowe is the child of Lina and Soan. This is why Astra has a higher magical capability than normal. Because Lina’s magic is very strong. Also, in Chapter 5 when Snowe was trying to ‘fix the link’ again (and ended up seeing a memory instead), he told Astra that there must be a reason she’s the Star Princess, and not anyone else from Sabine. I don’t think there’s been a reason given in game or in the story. But if Astra was Lina and Edgar’s child, her high magic capability and their protectiveness over their only child together would be reason enough for them to make the decision. 

How did Lina and Edgar get Astra without the Lords or even Richard knowing? I’m guessing the whole thing was done secretly. They wanted to have a heir to their throne. Or maybe needed - as the prophecy said that their child would bring the Lords down, and that is exactly what they wanted. 

Everyone else on Sabine was able to have children, as evident by the number of children in the game. But only Lina and Edgar couldn’t. Maybe whenever the Lords would hear of a child, they would somehow manage to sneak in a spell and kill the fetus, causing a miscarriage.

I think that once Edgar and Lina had a few miscarriages, they figured out it was the Lords. So next time Lina conceived, they did a bit of magic, probably some really old hard spell, to transfer fetus Astra to another woman in Sabine. The woman was kept away from Lord’s eyes. And she gave birth to Astra. No one knew about this. Except for Lina, Edgar, and the woman.

When my sister stared playing again she suddenly stopped and looked at me confused and asked “Why is Relenia fighting monsters with a bottle?” Her fight options had a bottle icon for attack.

Looks like some demon is unhappy with his little prince bringing a friend!
