A spiritual practice that is used to avoid difficult emotions, responsibilities, and daily life is escapism.

Spiritual escapism focuses heavily on fantasy, to the point where disassociation is a common occurrence or even a goal in the name of transcendence. This can look like an over dependence on meditation, tarot, astrology, psychedelics, or ritual without actually trying to integrate any lesson into the person’s physical life.

In my experience as a Virgo north node, it is super easy to lean over into escapism, especially when life insists on being a prick.

A common mindset, one that I had, was that “I just need to manifest the life I want,” and I would curl inwards and try harder to pray and witchcraft my way out of situations- particularly difficult financial and health ones.

I learned the hard way that manifesting doesn’t work without practical and physical effort.

Probably the most insidious and painful part of avoiding every day life was the sense of disconnection I experienced from years of neglecting my physical body.

Grounded spirituality looks like balance. It looks like self care.

Self care isn’t always aesthetically stirring herbs into a self-love spell jar and expecting your stomach to be satisfied off of vibes and the love of the Universe.

Running away from your problems won’t solve anything, even if it feels like you’re doing something when you’re doing a cord cutting ritual.

Grounded spirituality looks like cooking a nutritious meal with intention, and setting/ keeping healthy boundaries with others.
