He leaned back in the saddle of his Marlboro bike, the dim neon light from the street flickering like a dying heartbeat. The next Marlboro Black was already between his lips before the previous one had even gone out. The pack was almost empty, but he didn’t care. In this godforsaken city, these black beauties were his only reliable companions.

“There’s something special about these…” he muttered, his voice raspy yet hard as stone. Years of relentless chain-smoking had turned his throat into pure steel. No coughs. No burning. No weak surrender after a week. He could smoke from dawn till the dead of night and still sound like he’d just woken from the sweetest sleep of his life.
