Summary:

What if Steve was pregnant when he went into the ice?

Chased by grief over the loss of Bucky. Steve takes the Valkyrie into the ice in an attempt to stop Hydra.

70 years later, Steve wakes up in a new time, with new enemies and new friends, but the mission is the same. Bring down the enemy, no matter what. When a mysterious figure known as San Dapth makes his way onto the scene, Steve and the Avengers step forward and heed the call to arms. Together, they have to face down San Dapth and bring him to justice.

It is in their fight against San Dapth that Steve discovers something terrifying. He's pregnant with Bucky Barnes' baby. Now he must learn to live this new life without the man he loves.

Hydra learns of Steve's pregnancy. And they'll do whatever it takes to get to his unborn child, including unleashing their greatest asset from the ice—the Winter Soldier.

When Steve discovers the Winter Soldier and Bucky Barnes are one and the same, he must fight to bring back the man he loves.

Chapter 45: Outpost 9

On his right hand side, the woman has finished getting her blood samples and has uncuffed his right arm. The Asset doesn’t need to be told to lift up his right arm; he just does it. It wobbles in the air, then falls to the table.

“Lock it back up.” He feels the cool metal clasp back onto his wrists. “This version is a flop. Let’s wait out the sedative, then I want to give a go with version 2.8.”

It takes an hour for the sedative to wear off. They give him another hour to flush the rest of it out of his system, installing a saline drip in his wrist to speed up the process. He has to piss, but he hasn’t been given permission to relieve himself, so he holds it. 

When the world finally seems to steady itself, they administer the second sedative. It hits him like a freight train. The Asset chokes back a gasp, his eyes widen as his world spins madly out of control. There’s a rainbow-like aura that swims across his vision, and then he feels the oddest sensation of falling, even though he knows he’s strapped down tightly to the gurney.

“Asset, repeat after me. Red.” Doctor Whatever His Name Was orders.

Steve leans back against a log, staring into the fire’s orange heart. He means to stay awake. Truly, he does, but exhaustion seeps into him like slow ink in water. The last thing he sees is the curl of smoke rising from the fire, twisting upwards, forming shapes that almost look like hands.

He knows it instantly, because the air here tastes electric. The world is painted in shades of silver and black, and everything breathes. The shadows move as if with purpose, and when one of them stumbles forward, Steve’s pulse stumbles. 

It’s him. The same broad-shouldered man from every other dream. The shape that walks like a man but moves like the current, each step rippling through the ground, bending the dream around him. His voice is a low tide that pulls Steve in. 

“Back again,” he murmurs. “You always come back.”

“Heard Osborn was fired.” A knowing raised brow graces Steve’s face, just this side of insufferable when Bucky flushes in response. “By you,” he adds, lips curling further.

As if Bucky needs the reminder. The last thing he wants to do is dwell on that little fact, because Osborn was an incompetent motherfucker who never should’ve gotten top billing in the first place, much less for nigh on two decades.

He says as much, adding on an admittedly unnecessary, “Hey, maybe I’m swapping out one big-headed loudmouth for another, but that’s my mistake to make.”

Steve doesn’t rise to the bait, sidestepping the jab with a bitter laugh. “Got yourself a failing show and the first thing you did was fire the first name on the call sheet,” he tuts. “You sure you know what you’re doing, kid?” The tilt of Steve’s head is just condescending enough that it boils Bucky’s blood, and this time he really is thankful that trowel’s safely in Steve’s possession and a good few feet away from him.

Failing to bite back his words, he shoots back, “Looks like you’re not as cut off from SSR if you’ve still got ears on the ground.” Steve scowls once more and turns around to hurry back to the house.
