summary: When Tahani returns home from the neighbourhood's market, she notices that her girlfriend is feeling ill. She does everything to make her feel cared for. Unfortunately, it's no walk in the park. Eleanor isn't exactly the easiest patient, not even at 5 inches tall.

"Darling, are you there?" Tahani said in a softer tone, to prevent her girlfriend from being startled by her booming voice. She made her way into the living room.
No response.
Tahani had just returned from a trip to the market for some fresh vegetables, when she noticed that Eleanor wasn't in the same spot as before she left.
She slowly crouched down to sit on her knees in front of the dollsized house. The humble abode (as she likes to call it, to Eleanor's annoyance) was a place where she could retrieve when she wished to.
Ever since Eleanor was plagued with irreversible shifter abilities (abruptly shrinking down to five inches tall, and returning to her original height) things had been tough. To avoid being discovered by Michael and resulting in a one way ticket to the bad place, it was extremely important to keep the information within a smaller circle. Tahani, as her designated soulmate, and since recently, her girlfriend, was the first to know. Chidi has been giving Jason and them ethics classes, so it's a given that they are aware about the situation.
"Eleanor?" Tahani tried again, taking in the situation in front of her. The house was a pretty light blue color. It had two floors, and she had handpicked all the furniture. Mostly because Eleanor couldn't be bothered. Luckily for her girlfriend, she loved decorating anything she could get her hands on.
As her eyes glided over the miniature building she noticed how all of the curtains were opened, except for the one in the bedroom. She knows the blonde likes her privacy, but she rarely has them closed during the day.
"Hello?", she called out a third time. A bit louder, but still mindful enough.
"Hey, you back already?" Eleanor's voice came from somewhere inside the house. It didn't sound upbeat or cheeky, her default ever since the two of them became a thing. it was raspy, and a bit tired perhaps?
"Yes, it was a peaceful stroll. It was just as empty as during the VMAS after party of 2014. There was absolutely no one to chat with today, besides Bob. Don't get me wrong, he must be great at something, but small talk is not one-" Tahani voice trailed off, realising she was once again rambling.
"But that's not what is important right now, are you alright in there? Would you like to do something? We have made it work like this before."
"Maybe uhm, later?" Eleanor said hesitantly. "Not now though, I am busy cleaning in the kitchen, those dishes won't do themselves."
Tahani didn't find it all too convincing. Not that it wasn't custom for Eleanor to retrieve every once in a while. She was still getting used to not being on her own...
Nonetheless, the taller brunette had a feeling it was something else this time.
"May I open the house?"
After a few seconds came a grumble, before it was followed by a reluctant "hmmm."
Tahani took both sides between her thumbs and index fingers, before pulling the magnetic doors open carefully.
The miniature house was fully functional, such as running warm water, electricity and lights. Not to mention the convenience of being able to open it up in one go. She rarely does that without permission, of course.
It had taken them some time to communicate and set boundaries to make Eleanor feel at ease.
Her eyes glided over to the white and baby blue coloured kitchen first, expecting to see the tiny woman pacing around, but there was no one. Instead she spotted a small lump underneath the covers in the bedroom. The only part of her form that stuck out, was her blonde and wavy hair.
At the knowledge of Tahani's shadow looming over, Eleanor flipped to her other side to face her. Her face was slightly flushed and she looked sleepy, which wasn't a complete surprise, given her being in bed.
Tahani raised an eyebrow. "So much for working on the dishes, hmm?" Should've known that you'd rather wait for me to swoop in, with fingers way too large for such a task, and tidy up the kitchen...."
Normally, Eleanor would have been up in arms to throw some sarcasm back at her. She wasn't one to miss out on an opportunity to snipe twice as hard in return, no matter how big or small the original comment actually was.
Nothing came.
Eleanor's eyes were meeting hers, but it was as if she was barely there.
Tahani's concern must have been written across her face, because the blonde opened her mouth to speak, only for Tahani to reach her hand inside first.
As soon as the back of her finger touched the blonde's small forehead, it was clear to Tahani why her girlfriend was huddled in multiple soft blankets and looking at her like she did.
She had a fever.
Tahani's eyebrows created an even bigger frown than before. Eleanor spoke before she had the chance.
"See, that's the look I was trying to avoid."
"Oh, darling, you could've called for me...."
"It's fine Tahani, I can take care of myself."
She shook her head firmly in response. "It is simply not done to leave an ill woman alone, especially not one who's currently about 5 inches tall."
"Are you seriously height-shaming me right now?"
Tahani sighed and decided to ignore that comment. "It might surprise you, but I have an excellent skill in nursing sick patients. Smaller cases, pun unintended."
"Nah, that checks out, knowing your life back on earth. But still, I don't need your help. Got it all under control, trust me-"
The rest of her sentence was cut short by a series of coughs. Eleanor sat up in response and covered her mouth. It sounded like she had smoked a couple of cigarettes.
Tahani moved her hand, gently using her index finger to stroke her back. Eleanor didn't fight her touch, but she seemed to tense up just a little bit.
"No need to start fussing over me, like we both know you like doing. Your whole "I wish to be a better person" thing has been working, and I appreciate it, but-"
"No offense Eleanor, but you are as white as the sheets on your bed! Which quite frankly, I didn't think was possible for you to become even paler than normal."
"Gee, thanks."
"My point is, that it's okay to let someone else take care of you."
Tahani lowered her open palm next to the miniature bed.
Their eyes broke contact, and Eleanor's seemed to linger on the massive hand hovering beside her now. For a split second she believed that Eleanor was done with pretending, and she would cave.
"Nah babe, I'm good" She simply exclaimed before flipping over to face the wall, the blankets pulled up even more than before, leaving nothing but her messy blonde hair revealed.
Great.
It took some self restraint to not mutter stubborn underneath her breath.
"Come on...", Tahani said, sighing as she watched Eleanor from behind. Her hand hovered awkwardly, hoping that Eleanor would come around on her own.
"I will be better tomorrow, I just need a shirt ton of sleep. And some water, which I can reach just fine." Eleanor muttered, loud enough to be heard.
"What will get you to come with me?"
At that, Eleanor flipped back around to face the brunette.
"And what will get you to accept that I'm not helpless."
"You're not-"
"I've been fine on my own, ever since I can remember. I recovered from a broken ankle in a cramped apartment alone, I took a cab home after a surgery because my crappy "friends" ditched me for a night out at the club. I've gotten used to it." Eleanor said, while looking past Tahani's face.
"Eleanor.... that's not normal. Everyone deserves to be cared for when sick."
"Well, my mom wasn't exactly the maternal type. She would rather hit the local bars and find a hot guy to bang than play nurse."'
Eleanor eyes' trailed back up, noticing the sympathetic expression on Tahani's face, before shrugging slightly in response. Tahani recognized the look on her face.
It's the same one she had whenever her parents were brought up in conversation, intentional or not. The same expression before she dared to open up to Eleanor about them. Embarrassed, self aware and vulnerable. Her heart tightened the smallest bit at the sight.
"I cannot account for the behavior of those so-called "friends" of yours, or your neglectful mum, but I can account for my own. If no one gave you the attention you very much deserve, than I shall be the first. And trust me when I say that it will be even better than when I helped my dear friend Drew Barrymore recover from food poisoning, just in time for her debut as talk show host." Tahani said confidently.
"I am here, Eleanor." Tilting her head slightly, making sure her words came across sincere. Because they were.
Eleanor's blue eyes finally seemed to soften, as if the resistance was slowly slipping away. It made Tahani feel pleased with herself, if she dared to say so.
With a sigh, the tiny blonde began untangling herself from the soft fabrics. She swung her legs to the side of the bed, so she could reach her girlfriend's hand within 1 step.
But instead of settling down like she had done multiple times before, Eleanor's legs wobbled, causing her to lose her balance. She face planted on the large palm in front of her.
Tahani's eyes widened in response, before her other hand came closer, to make sure her girlfriend didn't sway backwards. "Oh darling.. are you hurt?"
She could feel the small exhales against the middle of her palm, and it took a moment for Eleanor to adjust herself on familiar soft skin.
Tahani had upped her handcare routine, from 2 to 4 steps, to be as accommodating as she could possibly be.
Eleanor had laughed in her face when she had told her. Which wasn't a complete surprise, considering how different the two women are from each other.
Where Tahani cared about her appearance a great deal, possibly more than she should, the same couldn't be said about Eleanor. It was one of the things Tahani liked about the shorter woman, her massive amount of confidence without caring about the judgements of others.
Eleanor had shifted from sitting on her knees, to laying down in a fetal position. Using the large finger pad underneath her as a pillow. She looked even smaller than she already was. It was a clear indication of how ill she felt, because the woman she had come to know and love like, just doesn't do this.
She barely tolerates the rides in Tahani's cupped hands to get around the house. Instead she had Janet work her magic on making everything tiny-proof. All to avoid being dependent on someone else.
But now, seeing her like this, showing a vulnerable side of herself that she still resents, even after all those adult years, it makes Tahani more eager in being there for Eleanor, like no one has before. The same way no one has been there for her either.
"Dear, I am moving you to the bed now, alright?" Tahani said, while eyeing the woman in her hand.
Eleanor craned her neck to look into her girlfriend's big, soft brown eyes. She nodded faintly in response.
A small smile appeared on Tahani's face. She slowly brought Eleanor closer to her lips, to press a gentle kiss on the side of her head. She made sure to be careful with her aim.
"I shall ask Janet for some assistance, I would rather avoid giving you too much paracetamol, or as you Americans like to call it: acetaminophen. I don't want you seeing stars, dear."
Eleanor said nothing in return, and only slightly tightened the grip her arm had around Tahani's finger, as her giant girlfriend slowly rose to her feet.
She used her other hand as a sidewall, just in case. But as she moved towards the master bedroom, she could tell Eleanor didn't have any energy left to change her position. She barely moved a muscle.
With the most care she could manage, Tahani laid her down on top of the pillow she herself normally sleeps on. The tiny woman didn't seem to mind, and immediately adjusted herself to be comfortable.
âEven your pillow smells like that rich perfume of yours, hot stuff.â She mumbled lazily. Tahani chuckled at the sight.
Tahani then looked around for a blanket, and draped it over her. She made sure to tuck it right above her small shoulders. If Eleanor didn't look like she did now, sick and worn out, she would have found her unbelievably cute like this, all bundled up.
Maybe she still did, just a little.
Eleanor's blue eyes opened again, a grateful but tired smile spread across her face.
Tahani wanted nothing more than to take her back in her hands, offer her her warmth and affection. But first things first.
"Dear, you will have plenty of time to sleep later, but please stay awake for a moment longer." Tahani said, noticing how her eyes were almost closed. It worked at least. Then Tahani turned her head around.
"Janet!"
"Hi Tahani, what can I help you with?" She said, as soon as she appeared into the room.
"Eleanor has been feeling under the weather today. I would nurse her myself, in normal circumstances, but all thatâs available here is.... well..." Tahani said, using her thumb and index finger to indicate the size of an average pill. âI cannot give her something thatâs almost as big as her head is right now. So would you be able to conjure up some âEleanor-sizedâ medicine? And some water, please.â
âComing right up!â Janet answered with a voice as cheery as ever.
Tahani watched with a sort of childlike-wonder as Janet held up her palm, revealing a small platter. She was used to asking for assistance when it concerned Eleanor like this, but to her, it was still unreal.
The platter was so miniscule, that the brunette couldnât even make out what was placed on it.
Nonetheless, she reached out with two fingers to be able to bring it over to Eleanor. As she turned back around to face her, she was pleased to see that her blue eyes were still opened, and locked on her all the same.
She positioned herself on the side of the bed so she could see her more clearly. Eleanor took the hint and sat back up. Her upper body was hunched over, her hands laying limply on top of the blanket.
The tray was placed right beside her, and Tahani watched as Eleanor took in the medicine. She was pleased that her girlfriend was letting her take care of her for once.
Tahani reached out again, this time to rest her palm against her back. Her thumb softly caressed her arm.
Eleanor placed her hand on her thumb to make it come to a stop. âTahani, Iâm not dying, you know that right? We cannot die again. No need to act like I will.â
She hadn't looked annoyed or bothered, so Tahani simply nodded and retrieved her hand.
âButâ, Eleanor added, âI do appreciate it. Iâm just not used toâŚ..â her voice trailed off, and Tahani believed for a split second that she was going to cry, but she took a deep breath instead.
Tahani wasn't sure what to say in response, except to offer a sympathetic smile. She was quite familiar with craving something that always fell out of reach.
Love.
She was taken out of her thoughts when she saw the tiny blonde resting her upper body back against the pillow. The blanket, despite being way too big, was wrapped more tightly around her now. She had rested herself on her side, facing Tahani.
âCan I get you anything else? Was 1 pill enough? Do you want more water? It's important to drink when youâre ill. Are you warm enough with one blanket? I could fetch you a few more, if youâd like? Have you even eaten? Maybe that's why you aren't-â
She was interrupted by a snort, coming from Eleanor. She had a grin on her face. Tahani raised an eyebrow at her in response, seemingly confused about what could possibly be funny.
âWhat? Do you ever hear yourself talk?â âOh Eleanor, you poor unlucky soul! Feeling so unwell and helpless. But donât fret, my liege. You are in my safekeeping, forever and ever.â She said in an awful British accent, mocking Tahani jokingly.
âEleanor! I do NOT sound like that!â Tahani scoffed at her. She crossed her arms in front of her chest, while continuing to glare at Eleanor. Who, unlike her, had a pleased expression on her face. The nerve!
âUh huh, keep telling yourself that.â she hummed in response, before it was overtaken by a yawn. Eleanor rested her hands underneath her cheek, and curled her legs up to lay in a more comfortable position. Tahani could tell she was fatigued, so she decided it would be best to let her get some sleep.
Tahani leaned forward to kiss her on the top of her head, and she couldnât help but smile softly while doing so. She brushed a lock of hair away from Eleanorâs forehead, which wasnât half as warm as it felt like before.
Tahani took one last glance at Eleanor, before she stood up from the bed, as quietly and slowly as she could, and made her way into the living room. It was the perfect time to start reading for next weekâs classes.
â
It had been a couple of hours since Tahani started âA Treatise Of Human Natureâ, which wasnât nearly as tedious to get through as expected. She had even gone as far as studying material that wasnât on the syllabus yet.
But by now, her eyes were barely registering the words on the page. So she closed the book and dropped it on the coffee table in front of her.
It had also been the same amount of time since Eleanor had fallen asleep. Not that Tahani had checked on her if she still was. She figured it wouldâve resulted in a few eye-rolls, and maybe something about her acting like a mum. So instead of hovering like a loony, she decided to wait for her to wake up.
Luckily for her, it had barely been a couple of minutes before she heard a series of coughs coming from the bedroom. A part of her was shocked that she heard any noise at all, given their difference in sizes and distance, but she could clearly catch it.
She turned her head in the direction of the sound, before she quickly made her way over. Eleanor was already sitting up, her lips forming a smile as soon as she saw Tahani approaching her.
Tahani smiled in return, smoothing the back of her dress to sit down on their bedside. âHow are you feeling darling?â
âDefinitely better than before babe. And you? Iâm assuming your day has been pretty boring without me.â She said with a wink.
âI am perfectly capable of enjoying a fine afternoon without you. Or should I remind you of all the times you sneaked out of the house to have ethics lessons with Chidi, while I was left to my own devices?â Tahani shot back, but there was no bite to it.
Eleanor looked as if she was about to argue back, but she rolled her eyes instead. âPoint taken.â
âBut.â, Tahani added, âYou did sleep for quite some timeâŚ..â
âAndâŚ..?â Eleanor pressed on, she couldnât resist.
âAnd⌠maybe I did miss you, a little.â Tahani shrugged, while looking down at her hands in her lap.
âPff, only a little? Come on! I know you better than that! Tahani Al-Jamil doesnât know how to be subtle. About anything. Ever.â
Tahaniâs eyes trailed back up at Eleanor in response. Her first instinct was denying the claim. She? Too much? Surely there were nicer ways to describe her, werenât there?
Or maybe it was just what she needed to hear.
âOh, EleanorâŚ. You are absolutely right.â She bit her bottom lip. âI did miss you more than a little while you were asleep. Maybe I can show you just how muchâŚ.â
Before Eleanor could question what she meant by that, she was swept off of her feet from behind. The only noise that escaped her mouth was a yelp. Her arms flailed to both sides of Tahaniâs palms in an attempt to support her upper body, even though it wasnât necessary.
âEleanor, mind if I pick you up for a moment?â âOf course Tahani, thank you for asking, AND FOR RESPECTING MY BOUNDARY!â Eleanor sneered at the giant brunette. And if looks could kill, then Tahani would be in hot water.
That was only if Tahani felt threatened in any way, shape or form. She did not. âLighten up, El.â she said while chuckling, as she noticed the facial expression on Eleanor. The pointed look she had worn about 2 seconds ago had turned into a full on glare.
Tahani brought her cupped hands closer to her face, turning it a quarter so she could look the blonde in the eyes, who had turned her head away. The smile that was plastered on Tahaniâs face made way for a neutral expression.
âWant me to kiss it better?â she asked her.
âJust because I act like a horndog most of the time, doesnât mean you can just fix-â
Too late.
Tahani leaned her head forward, before pressing a kiss on top of her girlfriendâs head. And another one, just because she could. Her aim was mindful enough, and she made sure that her lips didnât crash into the blonde.
âTahaniâŚ.â Eleanor dragged out as she stood up in her palm, pushing her hands against the larger chin that was still hovering above her.
At least Eleanorâs facial expression wasn't even half as sour as it was a few moments ago. Tahani took it as success. And who would disrupt something like that.
So she situated the blonde to 2 hands, to just 1. She rested her now free palm on Eleanorâs back, before peppering her with soft kisses. Against her collarbone (and parts of her shoulder by default), her stomach, her face, and other parts of her she could reach, without taking too much air away from the tiny blonde.
Eleanor squirmed as much as her body was allowing her to, but it wasn't long before she erupted into laughter. At some point, she gave up on fighting the flurry of kisses, deciding to join in, pressing her smaller lips against Tahaniâs larger, plush lips.
Despite the sheer difference in sizes, Tahani felt all of it. The way Eleanorâs fingers flexed against her bottom lip. How her eagerness to return even a fraction of the affection Tahani gave her, translated into her own kisses.
The two women eventually broke apart, their eyes still locked on each other. And when Tahani held her at a reasonable distance from her face, she couldn't help being satisfied with her view. Eleanorâs eyes were blown wide, and her little cheeks were at least 2 shades darker than they were before. Tahani was sure she had a similar look, as the heat crept up to her face.
It wasnât until Tahani focussed on Eleanor in her cupped hand, without all the shenanigans, that she could feel her shaking lightly.
âDarling, everything alright? Was I too enthusiastic for your liking?â Tahani questioned, eyeing her up and down.
But Eleanor was quick to reassure her. âI would be a fool not to enjoy kisses that are quite literally as big as me, hot stuff. Like you donât want to know how turned on I am right now. If I wasnât forking Thumbelina right nowâŚ.â She grunted, throwing her hands up in annoyance.
âSeriously though, you should always be as bold as you normally are. Like you just were.â Eleanor said, a smirk appearing on her lips. âI wonât break or crumble into a million little pieces. And if you cross any lines, well then itâs only fair that Iâm allowed to slap your cheeks.â
Tahani gasped in offense. âHey! Those are very delicate, thank you very much! And besides, I would never allow such a thing, especially not by you.â
Eleanorâs smirk turned into a full on grin, she looked proud. âWhat happened to you today? I didn't even specify which cheeksâŚ. damn Al-Jamil, I am rubbing off on you.â
âNonsense! I would rather not objectify every single person I come into contact with, it seems like a tedious task dear. Besides, your preferred style in clothing⌠to each their own.â
Eleanor rolled her eyes, but said nothing. She was used to Tahaniâs ways of thinking, and both women already knew what set them apart.
âYou,â Tahani began. âStill haven't answered my question.â She said, as she tapped her index finger against Eleanorâs nose. Booping her. It was something Eleanor hated in the beginning, when they had just met. By now, it had become something endearing, just meant for them to understand.
âIt's nothing. Honestly, it's probably the whole âbeing sickâ part.â Eleanor shrugged it off, before continuing. âIâm just a little cold. Which is fine.â
âEleanor, you are practically shaking like a leaf, still are, might I add.â
âIf you mind grabbing me a sweater from the house, then that would be great. Does that work, mom?â Eleanor said jokingly.
âI think I have a better idea.â Tahani practically beamed at Eleanor. âI can warm you up myself.â
A part of Tahani expected Eleanor to decline her offer, she wasn't as much of a hugger as she herself was. But to her surprise, the blonde simply nodded in agreement, the beginning of a smile forming on her lips.
She brought Eleanor close, laying her in the middle of her chest. The angle didnât allow their eyes to meet fully, but Tahani could feel her movements quite clearly. How her legs stretched out more, which way her head faced as it came into contact with her skin.
They had cuddled like this before, mostly because Tahani offered them, and yet it still felt special to her.
The moment that Eleanor had settled against her, she tentatively hovered her palm above Eleanor. Who noticed the hesitation immediately, therefore making the decision for her. A small hand grabbed the side of Tahani's thumb, dragging it towards her, and the hand along with it. Tahani rested her palm on the blondeâs back, with just enough pressure to be perceived as comforting, rather than overwhelming. Eleanor had no objections, as Tahani was always gentle with her touches.
Tahani draped the soft blanket over them both, to help with warming them up. Eleanor let out a hum of contentment, sinking deeper into the warmth that surrounded her on all sides.
âComfortable, darling?â
Eleanor mumbled something in return that she couldn't quite catch, which Tahani took as a yes.
The two women were both quiet for some time, seemingly lost in their own thoughts and perhaps, each other. Tahani brushed her index finger over Eleanorâs hair absentmindedly. She was close to dozing offâŚ
âT?â Eleanor said, breaking the silence with one of the nicknames she has for the brunette. Tahani simply hummed in acknowledgment.
âThank you, for today. For uhm, giving a crap and all. I know I didn't make it exactly easy for you, so.â Eleanor continued.
âNo, you didnât.â Tahani chuckled softly. âBut, it's quite alright, dear. No need to fret over it all.â
Her words of reassurance seemed to have helped Eleanor, because Tahani could feel a small, relieved exhale against her chest.
âIâm glad that I found you here.â
Tahani smiled, before closing her eyes in contentment at hearing the sincerity in those words. She tightened her hold on Eleanor slightly, making sure she felt her appreciation.
âIâm glad too, darling.â
