not defending that children's wizard series even a little bit but I always think criticisms of its worldbuilding often fall a little bit flat like you gotta meet worldbuilding where it's at and for most things that isn't going to be asking "Is it logical? Do the numbers add up?" so much as "Does it feel right for the story? Is it achieving what it's trying to achieve?"

had a really good few days where it was in the 70s and I could sit on my laptop outside I forgot that mild late spring/early summer days normally just do not actually exist normally anymore

Had a dream where I was watching LOTR but Frodo had this chest tattoo with gothic lettering and he was frequently shirtless and I was like “that’s really weird that I’ve watched these movies so many times and never noticed that huge tattoo that keeps being shown prominently. Why didn’t they cover that up? That surely can’t be meant to be part of Frodo’s character” and everyone else watching with me was completely nonchalant about it

getting a shitty 13 year old laptop for writing was such a good idea i have not been so consistently productive in a long time. i go outside and get so so mad about needing to write even though I don't feel inspired or excited about writing but there's nothing to do on that laptop but write, like even the thought of opening social media seems like more trouble than it's worth, so I force myself to write and eventually i get somewhere where it's not so hard

i think a lot of modern "queer" speculative fiction authors could really benefit from reading stuff where sympathetic protagonists do unforgivable things or otherwise really challenge you and the author never steps back and goes "I know what this character is doing is wrong and here is the specific reason why this is wrong and bad" or "but it's justified because xyz" or "no see the point is that they're evil" or "but the people they hurt are basically npcs and don't matter"

the things you post are literally indistinguishable from a 2014 men's right activist...

people are my age and still going "this children's cartoon character's story is the epitome of redemption arcs" and like the worst thing he did was extensive property damage and temporarily killing a kid

remember when bioware made cassandra heterosexual but also she looked and acted like that... she fucking disapproved if you tried to flirt with her and that's how i found out because i went into that game like "I'm gonna make this elf woman and i'm gonna romance the obvious lesbian" and she got mad that i'd think she was into women
