Sly didn’t know anyone would bother to show up in the middle of the night- especially when he’d finally been able to drift off to sleep on the couch. It was a more hesitant, subtle sound rapping on the door, just enough to rouse him from his slumber and draw his attention. Pausing, he listened for any steps coming down from upstairs, eyesockets cracked half-open, but realized no, he had to get up himself; Papyrus was sound asleep.

Peeking out of the curtains, Sly fumbled to see if it was even important. At the sight of Glace and another round of slightly louder thumps on the door, Sly slipped out of his covers unceremoniously and opened the door, trying to crack the best smile he could while still half-asleep.

…And worried, admittedly. Why would Glace show up in the middle of the night? Hopefully none of it was bad.

The line threw him off, but he managed a quiet, wheezy laugh as color dusted the white of his cheekbones. “W-Well, when their sweetest angel hasn’t returned to heaven yet, others will go searching. I just happen to know where s-said angel slumbers” Glace did his best to return the verbal affection, despite the slight rattle in his voice. “D-Did i wake you? Sorry..”

He really should’ve known better, it was the middle of the night after all. Still, that didn’t stop his mind from going down the road it did to lead him here.

In all honesty, as happy as he was, he feared his brother coming down and spotting them, or something else going wrong; he watched between the other and the outside carefully as he settled down on the couch, making an opening for the other in the cushions and pillows beside him.

“Gllaaaace,” Sly drew out, gently moving his hand out to stroke the other’s cheek momentarily. He never could break that habit, he swore he couldn’t, and he let out a soft, dreamlike sigh. The poor skeleton didn’t even have the right words for the flattery, instead finding himself a little bit warmer than before. “Aw, don’t worry ‘bout it. ‘M glad to always see you, y’know. My sleep schedule’s a mess in the first place, it’s good.”

Sly didn’t feel... assured by the other’s answer. His smile fell and his fingers uncurled from where they subconsciously held the blanket in little balls, staring at the other. He could tell the other was pushing it off, and Sly felt a little hurt by it. Even with the other smiling and trying to brush it off, Sly couldn’t find himself at ease.

To ask? To not ask? Pushing it aside likely wasn’t the best idea- putting it off to a later date wouldn’t help either of them. But at the same time, Sly didn’t want to be pushy, but...

...He couldn’t just ignore it.

The other monster’s speech is sweeter than sugar–        but he has to admit he doesn’t pay as much attention as he should—

             “sly!”

Sansy beams, scooping this poor monster up and pressing him into a very nuzzly hug before he can quite finish what he was saying. He buries his face into Sly’s jacket fluff and breathes in– ahhh, he was a little worried.

                          Just, you know, just a little.

   “oh my stars, where have you been? traveling? how’s everything?         i have so much to tell you–                i wanna hear all about you too! come sit with me–

                                                   oh, you dork! i missed you, egghead.”

Sly can’t help but feel his poor little soul practically skip a beat seeing how excited Sansy was just to see him, smile growing wider by the second as he leaned into the other’s hug. Arms circling around Sansy, he gently rocked both of them ever-so-slightly, a low content hum approving the affection.

“Aw, jeez- sorry. I should’ve come back and been here more often.”

What had he done the entire time he was gone...? It’d been a while, and he knew he had been up to things- mainly tinkering with little things, visiting other people, and trying to sort things out, but he didn’t know what to say. Was there really a good excuse- a good reason to not have shown up more? 

It didn’t trouble him, though, considering just how ecstatic Sansy seemed to be in this moment.
