As some of you may know, Spanish has gendered nouns: And there’s no neutral, only male and female. It affects adjectives, pronouns, and so on. There’s been attempts to create neutrals in Spanish (Basically, masculine names start in “o”, like “perro”, and a, like “perra”, and the proposal would mean using the e, such as “perre”). 

However, these attempts have been really recent and mostly only seen in people who do really care about LGBTQ+ stuff. Of course, there’s a lot of people who actively hate on it, the same way some people oppose the use of the singular they/them.

And somehow, GW2 decided to say fuck it and use these neutrals on Yao for the Spanish translation. I had NEVER seen it in a game, let alone such a big one. I’m dating a nb person who does use neutrals to refer to themself, and it was incredibly warming to see it in use in a videogame. For some people it’s an “odd choice”, but I’m actually really thankful about it. They could’ve defaulted to masculine, but they went ahead and worked on using something that is still not widely accepted.

I got lucky and managed to sneak a third card into the deck, among the stretch goal Wild Cards. Altough we were technically free to do whatever we pleased with the Wilds, I styled mine as a companion piece to Pyre’s 7 Wands.

6 of Wands (unofficial) - Victory, pride, success

Kalla Scorchrazor is the single most epic success story among the charr. Grandcub of Pyre Fierceshot, she finished what her grandsire had started, united the charr females, beat the snot out of much younger Iron Legion leader Forge Ironstrike to prove females are no worse to fight than males, helped bring the 3 remaining legions under single banner and defeated the Flame Legion shamans, thus beginning the era of new charr society.

6 of Wands, which the wild card is based on, symbolizes exactly that kind of victory. Day in the spotlight, pride in achievement.

Unlike Pyre, Kalla provided additional challenge. There is no in-game reference for her design, as we only have a very shoddy statue (that puts her to be greatsword wielding heavy armor class) and a very wobbly icon from the Renegade elite spec (that happens to conflict with the statue a lot). I took elements from both, mixed in a few of the design ideas from the Renegade elite helmet that’s supposed to be styled after her.

So this is it. One last story for Tyria’s only general.

I may not post here that much anymore due to the whole tumblr shooting itself in the groin in late 2018 or so, but since this is the place I teased this first, you guys deserve to know where it ended up.

Making this was a rollercoaster ride with no seatbelts on and now that it’s done, it’s frankly just kind of hard to believe. (That said, if I don’t have to paint another crystal for about next 4 years, I’ll be happy camper).

Almorra’s Massacre is one of my absolutely favorite pieces of Tyrian history. There’s plenty of easter eggs, callbacks and little details I enjoyed putting into this. Have fun hunting for them.

Another comic, this time quite a bit more recent than I’d have thought I’ll ever make. It’s quite a bit different than I originally envisioned, but I’m glad to get it off my desk and I hope you’ll find some value in it.

I haven’t actually played the Icebrood Saga episode 3 that hit earlier this Summer due to the lack of voicework caused by the pandemic, but I did spend my time running the metas and these three are what actually brought home that “oi, there’s a bona fide civil war going on”. It was a risky move from ANet, to use characters from old past who are fondly remembered by the charr playerbase and hammer in that anyone can succumb to Dominion propaganda.

The Making Of of this thing will be fun to dissect.
