englishable’s writing stole my heart the first time I read it and hasn’t given it back yet. It’s very rude. Sometimes all it takes is a single paragraph to know you’re going to fall in love with the story. That’s what happened when I read Janus and then it kept happening with every other fic they’ve written.

Ever_So_Reylo is a diasterism-era classic Reylo author. Every fic is a perfect delight. Amazing writing, great humour, steamy smut. Everything you could ever want.

voicedimplosives writes the kind of epic stories that you can easily sink into for an hour or two or eight without even realizing it. The kind of stories that make your heart race and your eyes water. A true talent.

Anysia nails characterization every single time. It’s hard to pick a fave from their catalogue because they’re all fabulous but there two in particular I know I will never, ever forget. You’ve got a nice blend of both canonverse and modern AUs to choose from as well, which is always a plus.

Violetwilson, too, has many wonderful stories I’ve sung praises about on multiple occasions. The Idiot’s Guide To Flirting continues to be one of my comfort reads that I always go back to when I’m feeling poorly because it just makes me happy.

But what Larry Kasdan and I did was set up certain key relationships, certain key questions, conflicts. And we knew where certain things were going. As for Rey’s parentage: It has been already answered in Rian Johnson’s masterpiece; The Last Jedi, the one which their shit movie tried to retcon so hard.

Poe: “Wait, what?”

Finn: “Who? I thought you were a Palpatine. Are they related to the Skywalkers? Was Palpatine Darth Vader’s dad?”

Poe: “No, no, that doesn’t make any sense.” He sneaks a glance at Rey. “Does it?”

Rey shakes her head. “No! Palpatine wasn’t related to Luke. I just took his name.”

Finn: ‘You can do that? Does that mean he doesn’t have a name anymore?’

Poe: ‘That’s not how it works.’

Finn: ‘How do you know? The galaxy is huge! People have different naming conventions.’

Poe: ‘Well, how do YOU know? You grew up in the First Order!’

Finn: ‘Exactly! Names are important to me! You think I haven’t been researching this?’

Rey: ‘Guys! Guys! Finn - no, it doesn’t mean Luke doesn’t have a name anymore. I did not … steal … his name!’

Finn: ‘Okay. Good. Not that I’d care if you did. He’s dead. You said he was. I doubt he cares.’

Rey: ‘He does care and he said it was okay.’

Finn: ‘Before or after he died?’

Poe slaps his arm, although Finn looks serious. ‘Before, silly.’

Rey: ‘No, it was after.’

Poe looks impressed and surprised.

Finn: ‘Okay, but anyway, you can just do that? Can I be a Skywalker? No, wait, can I be a Palpatine? That would be so cool!’

Rey: ‘Palpatine was not cool.’

Finn: ‘You said your parents died for you. That was cool.’

Rey looks at a loss for words.

Poe: ‘Are we just going to gloss over the fact that she’s talking to dead Luke Skywalker?’

Finn: ‘I am Finn Palpatine! Avenger of people who have their parents taken from them!’

Rey: ‘That’s … That’s not …’

and the way we learn this is essentially Snoke going “oh didnt u make up a weird alter ego a while ago just name urself that” and Ben being like “no dude I was a kid and its stupid” and snokes just like “do it pussy” and he DOES

they treat it like kylo ren is a demon haunting ben’s soul that he just has to exorcise–no, kylo ren is a hammer, a fucking broadsword forged in the fire of ben solo’s empty, directionless rage, designed to crush his pain, eviscerate his uncertainty

kylo ren exists to suffocate ben’s demons, not nurture them–he is borne out of ben’s conflict and desire for control, he is not a separation of ben’s existence. they are wholly intertwined! one and the fucking same and equally important!

like when they say oh he’s good now, like, oh, kylo ren is dead, he was killed, as if he was another person that dissipated, rather than the manifestation of ben solo’s will to eliminate his anguish and confusion and hopelessness

like that doesn’t just go away because leia did a fucking force spell! that’s the result of deliberate choice and resolution of inner-conflict, the achievement of peace! 

And so, with enough assaults from Rey and distraction from Leia, the Kylo Ren is somehow banished from gentle and kind Ben Solo, leaving behind the writer’s wish fulfillment - an empty, perfect character who wants nothing but the opportunity to sacrifice himself to save someone holy.
