“I think some people put too much faith into fate.”

“And I think some people don’t put enough. So I guess we’ve got conflicting opinions,”

“You must be able to read my mind, I swear I’ve been craving pizza all day long and this is the perfect time to relax to some.” Jered said coming into find a seat with a tired groan. 

“It’s cheap pizza. I feel required to say that upfront so you don’t complain later when you realize it’s not up to your standards,” 

“I’ll never turn down pizza with one of my favorite people.” Faline stepped in and looked around a bit. “It’s hardly dirty, Trix.”

“That’s nice, Faline, but I’m working on a new article and.... there’s research material everywhere. You don’t have to be nice and pretend it’s clean,”

“ And I’ve got weed , “ he says , wiggling the bag in front of her , grinning wide .

“Oooh. Wait. You’re sharing, right?” Either way, she moves aside to let him in.

“See – I love that,” Britney sighed. “It’s all just so great. And I also need to take you to the observatory at some point now.”

“Please do! That sounds like so much fun,”

“It seems like a pretty good day.”

“Do you know anywhere good that we could go?”

“House of Mouse is always a nice place. Good for drinks, entertainment. Y’know. The whole package,”

Britney couldn’t help but laugh awkwardly, hiding her face in her sleeves a moment before eventually dropping them. “It’s just all so cool. I love space, and stars, and galaxy, and zodiac signs and… It’s just the closest you get to real life magic in my opinion. Have you ever looked at galaxies up close through a telescope? They’re incredible.”

“I haven’t. But I did used to sit on the roof back home, on really clear nights, and just watch the sky. It was incredibly cool, and very soothing. I fell asleep doing it more than once,”

“Are you sure? That sounds like a story I’d read in the paper or something. Or a hidden camera sort of one,” he said with a chuckle. “I’ve had some. Not as dramatic, but with unexpected turns. Old people that end up dealing drugs or basically leading a gang of kids that steal phones. You’d find the most peculiar cases sometimes.”

“It was a little bit funny.” She admits, with a laugh. “And it’s a good story now that I’m past it all. Nice to tell at parties when things get a little stale. I don’t know what you mean, though, old people doing things you don’t expect sounds incredibly exciting. At least your job’s rarely boring, right?” 

“No! It doesn’t! I mean – It’d make sense if they were born on the exact same day as me, but even if it’s just a year apart, the moon not be in the same place… So there’s a lot of little things that have to be in the right place and – It’s very cool.”

“Okay, this is sort of a change in subject but I just have to note that I love how excited you are about all of this. Your face just completely lights up whenever you discuss astrology, and it warms my heart.” 

“I met someone today who has exactly all the same star signs I have! How amazing is that?”

“So incredibly cool. I’ll bet that doesn’t happen often.”

“Perfect. You want to grab dinner and drinks?”

“Can we please? That sounds so great,”

“Oh wow. Okay, you definitely win on the worst work stories ever. Although I have my fair share of them, wow. The hospital? A panic attack? Ouch.”

“It wasn’t really as bad as it sounds,” she laughs, “better than the conversation I’d been having, that’s for sure. I’m sure you’ve had plenty of moments you couldn’t use dramatics to get out of,”

“I wish I could say my type of interviews were easier. But they’re not. Not even with a police badge as a threat.”

“All I’ve got is my ID badge for work, and journalistic ethics, even when people are screaming at me because ‘all news is biased’ and ‘I’m part of the problem’! So --- guess it’s not much fun for either of us. I legitimately pretended my heart was giving out once, to get out of someone cursing me out. Made it all the way to the hospital, and managed to convince them it was just a panic attack so they wouldn’t call my family. I’m sure you have it worse, though,”
