oh ya, i've got severe nerve damage from self harm. my arms are way weaker than they used to be and the pain is genuinely atrocious. some of my scars feel like they're straight up on fire every single second of the day, especially my stomach scars... i can't even wear normal tops at home anymore. i've got to stick to just sports bras or regular bras because i need to avoid fabric touching the skin at all costs. that's because the damage made my skin completely hypersensitive ( that's actually a medical thing called allodynia, where normal touch feels like pureeeee pain ). sometimes i'll just start crying because a literal breeze brushed against my scars and the pain was just too overwhelming. dealing with the medical side has been a nightmare. i was prescribed really strong opioids for the pain a few years ago, but unfortunately, my body got used to them way too fast and they stopped working. i was recently given fentanyl in the hospital for a neck cvt, and that actually felt amazing, i finally felt free from this absolute hell. but the second they weaned me off it, the pain came surging right back. i've had so many doctors just look me in the eye and tell me there is truly nothing more they can do for me. the damage's so severe now that it literally stops me from doing as many cvts per session as i used to. my arms just go completely numb so fast. i never really worried about winding up with permanently paralysed arms from this, but my ex psychotherapist was extremely worried about it. nerve damage is absolutely not something to mess around with. it's serious and it is completely permanent. once you hit your nerves, you're going to struggle with that shit daily for the rest of your life. that's why i don't recommend cvtting deeper than you're used to. cat scratches are the nicest cvts out there because you can fully enjoy the feeling of bleeding out without worrying about suffering these permanent, brutal consequences or dealing with the more time consuming part of aftercare.
