ok im gonna kick things off here again with an ad! no caps for now and starters will vary in length depending on inspiration and interest!

“If it’s any consolation, I’ve been here for around five months and I--  wait, morally edible?! Oh, love... who hurt you?”

“I suppose it wasn’t very likely. We were lucky.” This was starting to remind him of before– before everything. The people in Konoha always refer to Sasuke as Itachi’s kid brother, never thinking of him past that idealization. Thankfully though this place was much different than Konoha. His connection with Itachi just made it easier to find new allies.

“Oh..” He listened to Tracer as she rambled on about the lake. He actually didn’t mind it, so he let her go on as they walked together. “Giant koi fish…hm..” Everything about this lake sounded great to Sasuke, and if Tracer was right, he’d be spending a lot of time there.

Sometimes, she didn’t realise how much she could dominate the conversation with her rambling. Perhaps it was a constant need to fill the silence with something, sometimes it just felt awkward. Though he hadn’t told her to shut up yet, she decided this was a great opportunity to ask about were he came from; Itachi didn’t relay much information to her, maybe Sasuke would.

❝  hmm, didn’t take you for a coy one …  how cute, lets see how long that will last…❞  

she props up her feet on the table and flicks her finger against the crappy steel of a worn out lighter.  

❝  but if i may add— playin’ the sweetheart hero isn’t gonna soften me up any time soon. ❞  

She had to have the last word, every single time... especially when it came to those of an unsavoury nature. It was in her nature to be cheeky and annoying in situations like that and the other woman sure was making it easy.

Balbok is quick to swipe the tears off. Taking a deep breath. Rammar would scold him. Would say it’s unworthy for an orc to cry. Yet here he is, still mourning for something that happened a while ago. Even worse now, he made Lena sad too. He really didn’t want this. He had to fix it somehow! What would Rammar say now? Orcs usually don’t bother about the past. Only now is important. That may be true. But does he want to forget the past? Does he want to suggest that, even? Does he want to become just hostile towards humans and elves, like his brother decided to? Yes, he would always jump by Rammar’s side, bare teeth at Corwyn, the human they’ve met recently. But does he really hate him? No, he doesn’t really care about him, as long as he’s not hurting his brother. He doesn’t really care about Alannah either, if he were to be honest. There have been so many good things about the past. Good things he likes to think back about. And he feels suddenly a new spark of motivation inside him.. “That day, I promised Mati that I protect my brother, you know? We lost much, but I became stronger since I gave that promise. Rammar may not be here with me now to scold me, but—”

He pulls out of the hug now, smiling at her.

“— I’ll use my strength instead to protect my weird friends here from getting hurt! To make more good memories. For that I’ll keep doing my best! And you too, okay? Just call me and I’ll help you!”

It was funny how this place worked sometimes; now and then she’d mourn the life she’d lost back home-- sure, friends from her past had made their way into the city and that was great, she was thankful for a few familiar faces but the one thing that kept her spirits high were those she was meeting now, of different worlds and walks of life. She had wanted to be the best person she could possibly be back home and here was no different and usually, she was a pretty good judge of character.

Though the guilt remained nestled in her heart, she wouldn’t allow it to overcome her now... especially when Balbok was honestly doing his best to brighten the mood (usually that was her job). A gentle smile replaced her frown.

The present box remained untouched on her desk but Lena knew better than to trust this place. Too much weird shit had happened already and even though it was tempting to see what was inside, there always seemed to be a catch with literally everything that happened around here.

She retrieved her phone from her pocket and called the one person she knew she could trust.

“Lucio? Hiya love, listen... did you find... a weird present this morning? Did you open it? If you haven’t, you should and tell me what’s in it.”

      He seemed to be struggling for a moment, holding something in his coat– an odd look, but the mutant never quite cared for what people may have thought about him. It was just his way.

      “Hey–” Southern drawl suddenly rolled out of his lips when someone came close, a cat head suddenly poking it’s head out when he spoke to the stranger, “I found this lil’ guy— you recon he a stray?”

She’d kind of always been more of a dog person, to be honest. Often with people’s personalities one could tell who would favour dogs over cats... but that wasn’t to say she didn’t appreciate cats. In fact, she did really like cats.

And in this specific situation, she couldn’t help but feel all mushy at the sight of the cat staring intently at her from the safety of the stranger’s coat. He seemed comfortable enough anyway. With one quick blink, she stopped in front of the other and reached out to pet the cat, tickling behind his ear in an affectionate manner.

Bookshops, one of the very few delightful places in this perfect hellhole. No better way to get one’s mind off of anything that wasn’t glorious battles, pressing investigations or the life of a gent who couldn’t handle an unrequited love. By the time he could have recognised the familiar sounds of inhuman speed, she was already there, effectively startling him, just a little. An agent should never lower his guards and yet… books were captivating that way, he couldn’t help it. No wonder he was never allowed to carry books around under Central’s watch. With a now calmer, measured movement he placed the Verne he had been holding back on the shelf before fully dedicating his attention to her.

❝ Suprise, surprise. If it’s not my favourite… what is it, that you do again? My memory tends to fail me time after time, and currently what I recall might not all be in your favour, nor could be considered a profession. Unless you are pain in the neck with a degree… I also am glad to see you weren’t turned into rotting flash and cracking bones, ❞ despite his best efforts he didn’t sound all that convincing. Blame the hint of salt that came from the jumpscare. ❝ – I have been looking forward to build up a collection. Novels, stories are my passion if that hasn’t become obvious to you just yet. To rebuild my little cave, feel home and all that mincing nonsense. ❞

“I save the world, duh.” Well, it was a work in progress... at least back home it was. Here, she just kept a watchful eye out for those causing trouble and did whatever she could to prevent it. And if she was annoying about it, then that was even better. Still, despite his tone her smile never once faded. He may not try all that hard to hide his disdain but she couldn’t deny she had grown rather fond of him... whatever his name was.

“Whaaat?” Bad line? 3 out of 10??? At least she didn’t dismiss him out right, which calmed his racing heart.

“Oh, you know, girl. Standard military birds.” He grinned, somewhat smug. “And intergalactic space lions.” He really wished he had his lion with him, that would definitely impress her. “What about you, Lena? What’s your ride?”

She just gave a light hum, disregarding his small protest. “Same, you know. Military jets and what have you. Then I was asked to test pilot a state of the art teleportation jet called the Slipstream. That was wicked... wait a minute...” She stared at him for a few solid moments.

“Did you just say intergalactic space lions?”
