âI am one girl in Portland Oregon who has compiled all of these documents, girlâs movies, so that I can wake up in the morning and feel like Earth is this place that has to do with me and you. The real you, the woman that is stranger and cooler and smarter and sexier and sadder and more caring than any woman on TV, and you are even a little better than you pretend to be because no oneâs ever demanding your best. I mean comâon, you think anyoneâs going to notice if you donât live up to your own high standards? BIG MISS MOVIOLA WILL NOTICE. HER JOB IS TO NOTICE WHAT IS MISSING. SHE ONLY SEES THE GHOSTS OF ALL THE GIRLâS MOVIES THAT WERE NEVER MADE BECAUSE NO ONE DEMANDED THEM. This is the place where you and I demand to see the missing movies.
Miranda July is the coolest. Her latest for Lenny letter is so dope.Â

'I Am Not Your Negroâ is a singular, essential film that has received rapturous responses at every one of our screenings this fall,â said Magnolia Pictures president Eamonn Bowles. âGiven the current social climate, we are planning one of our most aggressive theatrical releases ever for a documentary.â

This is such a beautiful and inspiring story. Great work by Great Big Story. Impressive filming and smart editing. Check it out.
I think the ability to withdraw from consensus reality is one of the most important skills for an artist to learn because it helps her to recognize invisible forces.

Her scripts have a simplicity that elevates the artworkâthe story and visuals work perfectly in tandem

Beautiful short film.
Those graphics tho...
I donât think that people outside of the industry realize how truly âindependentâ indie filmmaking can be. Parts of the creative process and research, writing, and fundraising can feel isolating and downright lonely.

By attending to atmosphere and attitude as much as plot, Reichardt has quietly become one of the countryâs best chroniclers of the American experience, but audiences donât appreciate the clarity of her vision nearly enough.

I then went around for many, many years, trying to do that, and I spent my twenties not really participating in the work force in any real way. I acted a tiny bit, but that was just because it was the only way I knew how to make money, and I sublet my apartment and lived in the woods and just tried to figure out who I was and what I wanted, what my real desire was and not just what I was used to doing, and it was a really confusing and painful, but really rich and amazing time. I got into cooking and I went and cooked in Italy. I became a doula for a while. I built stone walls one summer, and I read a lot, and I swam a lot, and I spent a lot of time thinking.

Among the explanations are a scarcity of venture capital, the political clout wielded by established businesses and a culture that values stability over the creative destruction that drives growth in countries like the United States.

Jill Soloway's Keynote at the Toronto Film Festival is a master class in female protagonism, prioritizing feelings, and how to soften the blow of kicking the cismales off the stage.
This is such a great keynote!!
