I know there's no possible way for this entire cast to actually work as well onscreen as it does in my mind. This list is just a guide for visualizing and/or hearing the characters as I read through the novel.
I actually picture Caroline, Victor and William as black-haired. Meanwhile I imagine Ernest and Alphonse (in his youth) as auburn-haired. This is based on the hair color of Elizabeth from the 1818 edition/timeline where she was the daughter of Alphonse's sister. In the 1831 edition/timeline, Elizabeth's mother was German instead of Swiss (and presumably blonde, like her daughter) and was not related to Alphonse.
EDIT (February 15, 2026):
New/Alternative Fancast for
Henry Clerval (Dave Hearn)
His character Max Bennett from The Goes Wrong Show is a warm, fun-loving stage actor who just reminded me of Victor's recollection of Henry from their youth, with him coming up with stories and reenacting them with Victor and Elizabeth. (First screenshot is Max dressed as Michael Darling and understudying as Peter Pan in "Peter Pan Goes Wrong". Second and Third screenshots aren't of the Max Bennett character, they're from the improv show "Mischief Movie Night In"... but I feel they still have the Clerval vibe. Third screenshot is Max dressed as young Ebenezer Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong".)
