For anyone who doesn't know, Harleith is the fandom ship between Dr. Harley Sawyer ("The Doctor") and Leith Pierre, the Head of Innovation from Poppy Playtime. In the official story, they are not a canon couple. Instead, they are two highly intelligent, ambitious, and morally corrupt people who worked together in Playtime Co. to keep the company alive through horrific experiments. Their relationship in canon is professional, cold, manipulative, and driven by power rather than trust or friendship.
That is exactly why so many fans enjoy shipping them.
The fandom often interprets Harleith through tropes like enemies to lovers, toxic relationship, workplace rivalry, power struggle, and black comedy. They're the kind of characters who could spend an hour arguing over who's smarter, exchange the most passive-aggressive comments imaginable, and then immediately continue working together as if nothing happened. Their personalities naturally create tension, which gives artists and writers a lot to explore.
One of my favorite things about Harleith is how flexible the ship is. Some creators portray them as complete disasters who can't stand each other. Others make them into coworkers constantly trying to outsmart one another. Some lean into psychological drama, while others turn them into office comedy where they're arguing over paperwork one second and accidentally acting like an old married couple the next.
I genuinely love Harleith. It's probably one of my favorite ships in this fandom. To me, their dynamic is incredibly entertaining because they're both terrible people in very different ways. Neither of them is the "nice one," and that's exactly what makes their interactions so interesting.
I know the relationship would be toxic. I know it would be unhealthy. That's part of the appeal for me as a fictional ship. Fiction allows people to explore dynamics that would obviously be awful in real life, and I think Harleith is a perfect example of that. I don't ship them because I think they're relationship goals—I ship them because their personalities create amazing conflict, dialogue, and storytelling.
From my point of view... this ship is honestly a work of art.
Every time I see fanart, comics, animations, or fanfics about them, I end up smiling because people are constantly finding new ways to explore their dynamic. It's amazing how one ship can inspire everything from dark psychological stories to the funniest office AUs imaginable.
Some of my favorite Harleith artists and creators have an incredible understanding of their personalities. They don't just draw two characters standing next to each other—they capture the tension, the sarcasm, the constant battle for control, and the ridiculous chemistry that fans have imagined between them. I really admire creators who can balance comedy with psychological conflict because that's exactly how I picture Harleith.
In my opinion, the fandom has turned this ship into something truly special. Even though it's not canon, the amount of creativity behind it is honestly impressive. The fanart, the writing, the memes, the edits, and all the different interpretations show just how passionate this community is.
At the end of the day, I completely understand why Harleith isn't for everyone, and that's perfectly fine. Everyone has different tastes when it comes to fictional ships. But for me?
Harleith is absolute peak.
Peak enemies-to-lovers energy.
Every time the fandom creates something new for them, it feels like people are somehow making the ship even better than before.
To me, Harleith isn't just another fandom ship.
It's genuinely one of the most creative, entertaining, and memorable dynamics I've seen come out of the Poppy Playtime community.
