I read the book when I was a kid and loved it. This season truly felt like a return to the themes of the book. I hated S2 because it felt completely pratchettless, but in this season I could feel his presence so much more. The themes of the messiness of humanity and free will, which were literally the point of the book and S1, were finally back on full display and I adored it.

In terms of production, holy shit what a refresh. The camera is intentional! There are shots that are GOOD and thought is in the cinematography! The sound design in the bookshop at the end? Loved it so much, gave it such a true feeling of emptiness. The little graphics are back!!! They felt like terry pratchett's footnotes in the first season and I'm so happy to see them again here.

My biggest criticism is that it should have been at least 3 episodes. Like it needed another hour or two to fully cook. Jesus was left on the cutting floor, the heaven murder mystery was left on the cutting floor. Michael's descent felt a little unearned and I'm sure that was supposed to be more developed as well.

I know some of y'all out there hate the ending and all I can say is that to me, it felt very true to the themes of the book and I loved it so much. Even without someone pulling the strings, in a universe of free will and no silly ineffable plans, they still find and love each other. They're literally married and grow old together and that's the most any of us can ask for.
