i definitely don't think those mindsets are inherently at odds. i imagine most white people feel they're just simply not allowed to interact with anything race-related at all due to online browbeating over the years from a lot of aggressive people who wouldn't understand intersectionality or material analysis if it hit them over the head.

and while on some level i understand the frustration towards the kind of white person that just doesn't listen to anyone ever at all, i think presupposing that everyone is that way and defaulting to scolding them is inherently destructive to all conversations regardless of intent.

i've had a surprising number of people privately tell me they hadn't thought of it as something they might even be into until i posted about it with the framing i did (using a vaguely defined idea of "race reparations" as a tool of sexual coercion). so i imagine another issue is just that there's so strikingly little raceplay content that isn't extremely superficial and low quality. which makes people think that all of it just sucks ass. if the only coffee you've ever gotten to taste is folgers with no cream or sugar, of course you're gonna hate coffee.

what makes it hot to me (and presumably to most people) is tugging at the threads of how racism actually manifests in everyday life, rather than imagining cartoony caricatures of people, as the typically most visible raceplay content does with its "brutish black thug fucks innocent white housewife" or "racist white maga chud fucks innocent mexican immigrant" stereotypes. that stuff sucks and is boring. which adds to what i said about coffee earlier.

i think you're allowed to find the social dynamics that have developed around race hot. because everyone already does it on here for:

queerness, with orientation play, detrans play, forcefem, etc

positions of power and fascist systems, with military/police themed play

gender-based social and sexual violence, with misogyny kinks and cnc/rapeplay etc

family-based systems of control and abuse, with ageplay and incest

and countless many others. open-mindedness is good! sexualizing social dynamics that have been used to disempower or harm you or even just affect you in one way or another is, to me, never inherently a bad thing on its own, and if anything seems to be something of an inherent reaction to one's own trauma or lived experience. kinks are morally neutral.

to assign persona non grata status to raceplayers when race is an equally huge life factor for all of us just seems reductive. after all, judging someone based on what their mind and body react to is inherently buying into the idea of thought crime; you need to remember to judge people based on the material actions they commit in the name of their kinks. so in the same way real rapists are outcast while cnc enthusiasts are given grace, actual racists are the ones who ought to take the beating that raceplayers constantly catch strays from.

in summary, you're allowed to like and get off to raceplay! just always remember to educate yourself on the material realities that exist in the real world, and help involve and uplift the disempowered voices in your communities and your friend groups! the same way you surely already do with all your other taboo fetishes!
